Stephentown Town Board Action – Town Won’t Take Elementary School Property

Stephentown will pass on buying the former elementary school property for $1. Town Supervisor Larry Eckhardt said at the Town Board meeting Monday that the President of the Berlin School Board has advised him that the School District will proceed to mothball the building that was formerly the Stephentown Elementary School and the property will be put back on the market for sale. Eckhardt and Board Members had met with representatives of the School Board but could not reach agreement on transferring the property to the Town. After Sandy Hook BCS To Evaluate Security

In the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, the Berlin Central School District School Board, at the monthly meeting Tuesday, passed a resolution to completely evaluate the District’s security policies. The resolution passed with all in attendance in favor; Board Member Bev Stewart was absent that night.

Petersburgh Town Board Action – The Broken Wheel Bridge Project

Supervisor Siegfried Krahforst reported that he, Councilman Duane Goodermote and County Engineer Wayne Bonesteel had a meeting to evaluate proposals from engineers interested in doing the engineering work on the Broken Wheel Bridge. The existing bridge has a span of about 25 feet. The proposals being considered re-design the roadway and proposed spans range from 35 feet to 50 feet.

Grafton Planning Board Action – Last Complete Survey In 1794

There were no public hearings scheduled before the regular Grafton Planning Board on Monday, December 17, so after the Pledge of Allegiance, roll call and the acceptance of the minutes of the previous meeting, the Board moved immediately to the subdivision application of Wes Vars. Vars wants to sell to his son Joe a five acre parcel from his 96 or so acres at the top of the hill on Snyder Road.

Hoosick Planning Board Action – December 2012

After the Pledge of Allegiance at the Planning Board meeting on Monday, December 17, Chairman Jim Dunigan asked for a moment of silence in remembrance of those lost in the tragedy of Newtown, CT. He also commented on the noise overhead as painting was underway in the building.
Planning Board Attorney Denis King told the Board he had received a letter from Michael Cusack of Verizon Wireless stating that engineer Russ Reeves had been hired to review the Verizon cell tower plans. The biggest topic of the year in the Town and Village was the Armory. The Town Board was in a quandary as to whether to purchase the building for use as the Town Hall or not. A Save the Armory Committee threw themselves into gathering information to justify making the building the Town Hall and adding uses to the building to make it feasible. Hoosick Falls – Anne C. Pappas, 88, passed away on Saturday, December 15, 2012, at the Saratoga Hospital in Saratoga, NY, surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late George N. Pappas.
Anne was born on March 21, 1924, in Hoosick Falls, NY, to the late Daniel and Mary (Liporace) Capano. She spent the majority of her life in Hoosick Falls and was employed as bookkeeper for Delurey Sales & Service in North Hoosick, NY, where she retired after thirty years of service.
