Political Season Heats Up In New Lebanon – Clark Removed From Deputy Supervisor Position
by Thaddeus Flint
New Lebanon Town Supervisor Margaret Robertson, in an announcement at the October 10 Town Board meeting, removed Council Member Doug Clark from his position as Deputy Town Supervisor.
According to Robertson, after the recent decision by Hannaford to no longer pursue their grocery store project in New Lebanon, “I learned a meeting arranged with our Hannaford representative was done so through my Deputy Supervisor, and another new member of the Business Association. I assumed I would be included in this discussion as I had been involved all along. So, I was extremely disappointed to find I was not part of the meeting at all. When I discovered the meeting was to be held at the Albany office of my political opponent, I was shocked as it became clear to me this economically challenging issue had suddenly become political, so I had to be excluded.”

Village of Hoosick Falls Board Meeting – Traffic Control
by Jan Shields
The Village Board Tuesday approved a local law aimed at slowing traffic at dangerous intersections.
The Board authorized the placement of stop signs, including some four-way stops, at several intersections in the Village, including the corner of Carey and McCaffrey streets.
Removed from the law, however, was a no-parking area on a portion of Rogers Avenue. According to Mayor Matt Monahan, the no-parking zone was removed after the Highway and Police departments said it would only force vehicles to park on Main Street, causing a further hazard.

George Holcomb’s House
by Alex Brooks
This is the beginning of a series about the life of George Holcomb, a Stephentown farmer of the early Eighteenth Century. He kept a journal of his activities which ultimately filled over 11,000 pages. It is a fascinating document, but the trouble is, the antique script is extremely difficult to read. This problem is solved by a typescript that, incredibly, was the work of only one woman. Betty McClave worked long hours every day for a year and a quarter, typing the journal and recording references to people in the Stephentown Historical Society’s cemetery list. It was her hard work which makes possible this series of articles on Holcomb’s life.
