Town Of Hoosick Lions Club Celebrates 50th Anniversary

On Saturday evening, June 4, the Town of Hoosick Lions Club celebrated its 50th Anniversary with a dinner dance at the Hoosick Falls Country Club. Members from the Albany/Troy, Watervliet, Amsterdam and Scotia/Glenville, NY Clubs, plus the Bennington, Norshaft (Norwich/Shaftsbury), Vermont Clubs, joined the celebration.

Hoosick Girl Scout Honor Ceremony

On Sunday, June 12, Hoosick Girl Scouts their families, and their leaders gathered together for their year end Honor Ceremony at Hoosac School. The program began with a procession of scouts lead by the youngest Daisies (kindergartners) and a presentation of flags by one of the Ambassador troops (a sophomore and four juniors) and with remarks from Service Unit Manager Joyce Brewer. This was one of the points Students Assistance Counselor Maryann Strauss, Mike Fonda and 2004 HFCS graduate Matt Harrington tried to make to the senior boys on Tuesday, May 31.

Stephentown Motocross In Limbo

The Stephentown Zoning Board, continuing their deliberations on a Motocross track proposed by Howard Commander for a site adjoining New Lebanon off of Webster Hill Road, is not satisfied yet that the application for a zoning variance is complete. A revised plan for the track along with a noise study had been submitted to the Board since last month but not in time for sufficient review by Board members prior to this month’s meeting last Thursday, June 2. Also, a number of questions were raised by the attorney representing neighboring landowners regarding the noise study, the adequacy of the plan and changes made to it.

High Street House Gone!

Quick as a wink this week the house at 38 High Street/Route 22 in Hoosick Falls was demolished and removed. Large trees have also been taken down and run through a chipper. Work is underway to repair the west side of High Street where utility poles have been tilting, sidewalks sinking and the roadway crumbling.

Mike Brewster One Of Eleven Honored By The National Football Foundation

The 2010 Capital District Chapter of the National Football Foundation and the College Hall of Fame narrowed its field of candidates from 61 to 11 for its annual Scholar-Athlete Dinner at the Turf Inn on May 9. HFCS football team tri-captain and quarterback Mike Brewster was one of ten sectional players and one college program player honored that night. The event recognized the achievements of these athletes on and off the field.
