No Public Vote On Grafton Assessors

The Grafton Town Board held a public hearing on Thursday June 17 on its proposal to have a sole appointed assessor rather than the current system of having three elected assessors. There were about 30 citizens who came to the hearing. The room was just about full.

Grafton Town Board Action – June 2010

At the Grafton Town Board meeting in June, Highway Superintendent Herb Hasbrouck reported on a project that the Highway Department has been working hard on for a long time. This project is an Emergency Management Program, a program that has been approved and accepted by the County. Junior Naturalist Programs For Kids

The Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center will hold a Junior Naturalist Series this summer for kids ages 2 through 10. The first of the series is on Frogs and Salamanders and will be held on Saturday, June 26, from 10 am until noon. Second in the series is Bountiful Bugs held on Thursday, July 1. Each program in the series will focus on a new topic and include an activity and a craft. The fee is $3 per child or $6 per family. Programs are held rain or shine. Pre-registration is encouraged to help with planning, but not required and can be done by contacting the Center at dykenpond@fairpoint.net or at 658-2055.
Dyken Pond Center is a Rensselaer County Park open daily during daylight hours for hiking, fishing and non-motor boating. Call 658-2055 for directions and a complete schedule of our summer events.

Free Fishing Day Saturday, June 26, GLSP

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is sponsoring a family fishing day on Saturday, June 26, from noon until 2 pm at Grafton Lakes State Park. “This is a great opportunity for families to learn more about the great sport of fishing and New York’s natural resources,” DEC Biologist Joelle Ernst said. “This day is set up to teach participants about fishing and promote a rewarding activity that will last a lifetime.”

Helen Hemendinger Honored With PTA Founders’ Day Award

Each year in observance of Founders’ Day, PTAs across the country pay tribute to their founders and past PTA leaders by recognizing someone who carries on the tradition of making an outstanding contribution to the well being of children and youth. This year the Hoosick Falls Central School PTA honored retiring AIS math teacher Helen Hemendinger, who exemplifies the tradition of those founders.

Max Fischer Prepares To Be Navy Seal

Max F. Fischer IV of Grafton graduated from The Great Lakes Naval Training Center in Great Lakes, IL, on May 14. He will continue at Great Lakes for several months of special ops training then transfer to Coronado, CA, for BUD/S (Basic underwater demolition/ SEALS) training in preparation to becoming a navy seal.

Elks Father’s Day Breakfast

The Brunswick Elks, 665 Brunswick Road, Troy will be holding its annual Father’s Day Breakfast Buffet on Sunday, June 20, from 8 am to noon. The cost is $7 for adults, $5 for children 5-12 and free for children under 5. Reservation for large parties is preferred, call 279-1244.

Grafton VFD Breakfast

The Grafton Volunteer Fire Department along with the Grafton Ladies Auxiliary will be holding an All You Can Eat Buffet Breakfast on Saturday, June 26, from 8 to 11 am at the Grafton VFW – Fire Hall on South Road (County Route 85). Belgian waffles, pancakes, French toast, eggs (made to order), bacon, sausage, home fries, toast, orange juice, coffee and milk are on the menu.  The cost is $8 per adult, $4 for kids 5 to 12 and under and free for kids 5 and under. We look forward to serving you.
