Grafton Lakes State Park will offer a Survival Skills Series this summer with monthly programs offered through August. Over the course of the summer, volunteer instructors will cover everything from lostproofing your children to making debris shelters in the woods. On Saturday, June 19, Grafton Lakes kicks off its Outdoor Survival Skills Series with “A Dozen Ways to Light A Fire Without Matches” at 2 pm.

Grafton Planning Board Action – May 2010

The Sylvan Way project, also known as the Stonybrook development, was the headline news at the May 17 Planning Board meeting. The developer, David Lipinski, reported that he plans to have the power lines in and the road widened by the end of July. There was discussion about the top coat of the road. Lipinski said he has been working closely with Highway Superintendent Herb Hasbrouck to make sure he is complying with Grafton’s road specifications. Letter To The Editor – Opposed To A Sole Assessor For Grafton
Dear Editor:
Recently, the Grafton Town Board introduced Local Law # 1, which would replace the Town’s three elected assessors with a single elected assessor appointed by the Town Board. They scheduled a Public Hearing on the issue just one week after this introduction. Seven people showed up to speak strongly against this proposed law. No one spoke in favor of it. The Board then voted to hold the public comment period for this proposed law open until June 18, by written correspondence to the Town Board.

Grafton Historical Society Annual Picnic
The June 16 meeting of the Grafton Historical Society will be held at the Grafton Town Green for its annual picnic. In case of rain, it will be held at the Grafton United Methodist Church. Lifelong Friends Both Receive SUNY Potsdam Award
Two Berlin graduates, and lifelong friends, have been named the recipients of the “Clarkson Family Award” for 3-2 engineering at the State University of New York at Potsdam. Nicholas Paine, son of Jeff and Diane Paine of Petersburgh, and Matthew Hartnett, son of Joyce and Michael Hartnett of Berlin, both 2007 graduates of Berlin Central School received the prestigious “Clarkson Family Award” given by the Clarkson family to a student (this year two) who has excelled in the Potsdam portion of the 3-2 engineering program.
