Relatives and friends are invited to graveside services on Saturday, May 1, at 10 am in the Grafton Rural Cemetery, Route 2, Grafton, NY, for Hilda G. Goyer. Mrs. Goyer died on February 14, 2010 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy, NY.

Grafton Town Board Action – Board Votes Not To Support Forest Legacy Designation

There has been much controversy over the application to the US Forest Service by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) for the designation of the Rensselaer Plateau as a Forest Legacy area. The DEC is trying to designate “nearly 200,000 acres” of land in the Rensselaer Plateau as a Forest Legacy area. Ninety-nine percent of the Town of Grafton falls within the Rensselaer Plateau and nearly 20% of the Town of Grafton is currently owned by New York State. About 60 people attended a Community Forum on the future of the Rensselaer Plateau held Monday evening at the Stephentown Fire Hall. The Forum was sponsored by the Rensselaer Plateau Alliance, the Capital District Chapter of the New York Forest Owners Association, the Home Waters Chapter of Trout Unlimited, and the Black River Raiders Snowmobile Club.

Two From Eastern Rensselaer County Honored

At its meeting on Tuesday evening, the Rensselaer County Legislature passed two resolutions focussing on residents of Eastern Rensselaer County. One honored a girl from Grafton just starting on the road of life, whose future is full of possibilities. One remembered a Stephentown man whose travels have ended, who lived a life well spent, full of accomplishments and service for his community.

Grafton FD Breakfast
The Grafton Volunteer Fire Department along with the Grafton Ladies Auxiliary will be holding an All You Can Eat Buffet Breakfast on Saturday, April 24, from 8 to 11 am at the Grafton VFW – Fire Hall on South Road (County Route 85). Belgian waffles, pancakes, French toast, eggs (made to order), bacon, sausage, home fries, toast, orange juice, coffee and milk are on the menu. The cost is $8 per adult, $4 for kids 12 and under and free for kids 5 and under.
Woods Walk At Dyken Pond
The Rensselaer Plateau Alliance is hosting a Woods Walk Series this spring to increase understanding of woodlot management and enjoyment of forests. The first in the series will be held at the Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center on Saturday, April 24. Registration, coffee and conversation begins at 8:30 am, followed by a brief introduction to the Rensselaer Plateau Alliance. Workshops will run from 9:30 am until 12:30 pm. Trail Clean Up Volunteers Needed
The Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center is looking for volunteers to work on trail clean-up on Saturday, April 24, from 1:30 to 4 pm. Trails need to be cleared from winter debris and blow-downs. Volunteers will work on teams and can volunteer for the whole afternoon or just an hour or two. Refreshments will be provided.
