Senior Citizens are invited to a pulled pork and pulled chicken picnic at Berlin High School on Wednesday, May 26, sponsored by the HS Catering Class, Cookie Monster Catering. The picnic will begin at 11:30 am and include food, fun and sunshine! (Well – food and fun are guaranteed!)

A Spring Wildflowers Walk
A leisurely walk on “Spring Wildflowers: Identification and Folklore” will be held at the Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center on Sunday, May 16, beginning at 10 am. The walk will focus on identification and folklore of spring flowers and plants. The event is free and pre-registration is encouraged, but not required. For more information, please call the Center at 658-2055.
May Events At GLSP And Cherry Plain State Park
Parking fees apply on weekends of $6 per car through May 23 and $8 per car once swimming opens on Memorial Day weekend at GLSP. CP fees will be $6 per car on weekends until July, when swimming opens.
Saturday, May 15 – Star Watch at Grafton Lakes State Park at 8:30 pm. Join with members of the Albany Area Astronomers and come explore the night sky. Meet at the main parking lot. Call 658-9144 to confirm.

Grafton Fire Department And Auxiliary Installation

It was a beautiful Grafton night as Graftonites assembled in the VFW Hall for the 66th Annual Fire Department Installation Dinner on Saturday, May 1. The evening started with a delicious dinner catered by Juliano’s from Wynantskill.
After dinner the ceremony began. Cyril Grant swore in the officers of the Grafton Fire Department and the Ladies Auxiliary. Grant thanked Grafton for having him and for the wonderful evening.

It is with great concern that I have followed the events unfolding within our School District in the last five years. I was greatly disturbed when our former school superintendent and former business manager first unveiled their plans to close Grafton and Stephentown Elementary Schools as part of an attempt to save money, as well as perform much needed repairs and updates at our other two District schools. Dear Editor,
I am keeping the children out of this letter, because we have some great teachers, bus drivers and staff and I know that our kids will be safe and get a good education. The BIGGER issue right now is TAXES and what we are paying for! Do we really have a choice? Why is there no trust in our District leaders? Well, we can take a brief walk through history to see clearly why.

As a past Town Justice, Councilman and Planning Board Chair of the Town of Grafton, it is with great pride that I applaud and commend the recent action taken by the current Town Board, more specifically with regard to the resolution by Councilman Edward Fredricks and the unanimous vote by the Board opposing the NYS State Dept. of Environmental Conservation’s designation of the Rensselaer Plateau as a Forest Legacy Area.

Deanna Nash Is BCS Valedictorian For 2010

Deanna Nash of Grafton has been chosen to be the Valedictorian for Berlin High School’s Class of 2010. Nash is both a scholar and an athlete. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Secretary of the Student Council and currently Class President. She has been a mainstay in varsity soccer, basketball and softball. How does she get everything done and do it so well? The trick, she said, is to “use your time wisely.”
