HF Police Arrest Two Men; Face Kidnapping And Sexual Assault Charges

Twenty year old Dong Van Huynh and 21 year old Jorge Andino, both of Worcester, MA, are being held in the Rensselaer County Jail. They face charges in New York and Vermont and possible Federal charges resulting in their involvement with a 13 year old Hoosick Falls girl Van Huynh met through Myspace®.

St. Mary’s Academy Students Say Thank You Firefighters

St. Mary’s Academy of Hoosick Falls invites you to attend its Annual Spring Auction on Saturday, April 2. Doors open at 6:15 for previewing, with the live auction beginning at 7 pm with our local auctioneer, Ron Seifert. A silent auction will be held simultaneously. Anna Hoffman

Hoosick Falls – Anna Hoffman, 95, passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at the Hoosick Falls Health Center, where she had resided since 2008. Anna was the wife of the late Ralph Hoffman, who died in 1984.

Rose Willard

Bennington – Rose Willard, 86, died March 16, 2011, after a brief illness. Born in Troy, NY, on April 15, 1924, she was the daughter of Anthony and Lena Carelli and grew up in Hoosick Falls, NY. She married Bob Willard on October 14, 1948.
Mrs. Willard was the bookkeeper for two family businesses, Bennington Lanes and Bennington Drive-in Theater. In retirement she became a master gardener and started a perennial flower business.

St. Mary’s Academy Needs New Roof

More than 70 inches of snow has fallen in the area this winter. Seventy inches of snow that was routinely cleared off the flat roofs  of St. Mary’s Academy. “Maintenance Supervisor Jerry McAuliffe organized groups of volunteers to shovel the roof,” said Principal Maureen Daurio, “sometimes Jerry was up there day and night.” The volunteers who spent hours lightening the roof load week after cold winter week included Immaculate Conception Church Pastor Tom Zelker. The roof over the gym was replaced seven years ago and is holding up well.
