Storytelling At The Hoosick Falls Senior Center

As a part of the Ninth Annual Riverway Storytelling Festival, which runs from April 4-10,  the Cheney Library will be hosting a free storytelling event at the Hoosick Falls Senior Service Center on Church Street. This event will take place on April 5  at 1:15 pm and will feature Storytellers Frank-Lee Speaking and Marni Gillard.

Future Of Hoosick Falls Armory In Doubt

At the Hoosick Town Board meeting on Monday, March 14, Town Supervisor Keith Cipperly announced that the National Guard housed in the Armory on Church Street is moving out of the building. The Supervisor was told the guardsmen that report in Hoosick will now report to Gloversville and Leeds.

Hoosick Falls Celebrates St. Patrick

When you schedule a parade for March in the northeast it’s a hit or miss deal. Some years there will be sunny skies and temperatures in the 50s. Other years you are not so lucky. Hoosick Falls has been holding St. Patrick’s Day parades for the last 20 years. The parade has gone on in snow and rain and good weather. This year was not bad… not great… but not bad. Hoosick Falls To Look Into Consolidation With Hoosick

At last week’s Hoosick Falls Board meeting, Mayor Matt Monahan and the Trustees agreed to apply for a Local Government Efficiency-High Priority Planning grant through the Laberge Group. The grant will be for a “Village Dissolution Study with Alternatives to Dissolution.” On Monday evening the Hoosick Town Board supported the grant application. Deadline for the $48,000 grant was Wednesday, March 16.

Village Incumbents Re-elected

The Brewster Brothers And Mixed Up Basketball At Youth Center

The community is invited to an open house celebration this weekend at the Hoosick Area Youth Center, 115 Church Street, Hoosick Falls.
The celebration begins on Friday, March 18, with a free concert for high school students, featuring The Brewster Brothers, at 8 pm. Doors open at 7:45 pm. Everyone is welcome – members and non-members of the Youth Center.

Ice Storm Made Roads Impassable, Caused Power Outages; Grafton And Hoosick Hardest Hit

On Monday morning, March 7, Rensselaer County Executive Kathy Jimino declared a State of Emergency in response to the ice storm that affected many portions of the County. At the start 5,000 homes and businesses were without power and many State, County, Town and Village roads were impassable. By Tuesday afternoon 2,500 homes and business were still without power, and some roads were still impassable. National Grid and New York State Electric and Gas had most power restored by late Tuesday and expected to have the rest restored Wednesday.

Hoosick Falls Election Is Tuesday, March 15

On Tuesday, March 15, Hoosick Falls voters will go to the polls to re-elect a Mayor and Village Justice and elect three of four candidates for Trustee. Mayor Matthew Monahan and Trustees Paul K. Haynes, Jr. and John Hickey are running on the Progressive Party ticket for a second term. Riccardo DiDonato is also on the ticket, running for a third term. Thomas Restino is running again for Village Justice.

Rensselaer County Honors Two Prominent Area Families

Two prominent families from Eastern Rensselaer County came to the Rensselaer County Legislature’s meeting on Tuesday, March 8, to be presented with copies of the resolutions passed last month honoring their departed loved ones. District 5 Legislators Stan Brownell and Lester Goodermote, who represent the towns of Stephentown, Berlin, Petersburgh, Grafton, Hoosick and the Village of Hoosick Falls made the presentations.
