Dispatchers Honored At Hoosick Falls Fire Dept. Banquet

Hoosick Falls Dispatchers were recognized at the Hoosick Falls Fire Department Annual Banquet and Installation of Officers on Saturday evening, January 22, at the Firehouse. Chairman of the Hoosick Falls Board of Fire Commissioners and President of the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad, Bill Gaillard, presented plaques to the Dispatchers attending the event and said familiar voices with their knowledge of the area will be sorely missed when the local Dispatch service is shut down at the end of April. Bowl For Hoosick Kids Held At Barbecue Recreation
The Seventh Annual Bowl for Hoosick Kids event was held Saturday, January 15, at Barbecue Recreation on Route 22 in Hoosick Falls. Two waves of teams participated in the event, bringing in over $3,000 in pledges. Proceeds support programs for youth and families provided by the Hoosick Area Youth Center & Community Coalition (HAYC3).

Deer Me!

The abundant snowfall this winter has deer moving around throughout the area and even in the Village of Hoosick Falls looking for something to eat. On Monday, January 24, at about 9 am a deer was seen on Main Street. The poor creature was so distracted by people and traffic that it jumped over a portion of collapsed fence at the corner of Main and John Streets and landed in the cellar hole of the former Dougherty’s Restaurant.

The St. Stanislaw Society of Hoosick Falls presented a check on Saturday to the Hoosick Falls St. Patrick’s Day Parade. HACA Free Tax Service Opens
The Hoosick Area Church Association (HACA), for the seventh year, is offering free assistance to the public in preparing income tax returns through the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance or VITA program. The VITA site will be located at the HACA Center at 26 John Street, Hoosick Falls, the former home of the Falls Federal Credit Union. The service is provided by IRS certified VITA/TCE volunteer preparers.

Hoosick Falls – Edward F. Loomis, 89, passed away on Monday, January 24, 2011, at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington, VT. He was the husband of the late Marie (Kincaid) Loomis who died in 2005. Edward and Marie were married on April 4, 1942.
