Village of Hoosick Falls Board Meeting – Progress At Dougherty’s Corner

At the Hoosick Falls Village Board meeting on Tuesday, February 8, the Board approved a short term loan of $10,000 to Alex Koks for bank closing costs for construction on the Dougherty lot on the corner of Main and John Streets. The loan money comes from the Village’s small business fund and will be paid back with the Restore NY grant funds once the new building is complete and approved. Mayor Matt Monahan pointed out that Koks has put up several personal properties as collateral for the bank loan.

Four Candidates For Three Trustee Positions

Hoosick Falls Mayor Matthew Monahan and Trustees Paul K. Haynes, Jr. and John Hickey are running on the Progressive Party ticket for a second term. Riccardo DiDonato is also on the ticket, running for a third term. Thomas Restino is running again for Village Justice.
The Taxpayer Party has cross-endorsed the Mayor, Justice Restino and Trustees Haynes and Hickey. Their candidate for Trustee is Sharon Davendonis.

Rensselaer County Legislature – Community Spirit Recalled

The family of John “Jack” Dwyer came to the Rensselaer County Legislative Chamber on Tuesday evening to receive copies of the resolution that was passed in his memory at last month’s meeting. Former Hoosick Falls Mayor Don Bogardus accompanied Jack’s son Phillip and his wife Vicki into the well of the Legislature where District 5 Legislators Stan Brownell and Lester Goodermote made the presentation.

Local Girl Scouts Help Extend Thrift Shop Hours

To help get great clothes for great prices into the hands of those who need them, Girl Scouts from local Service Unit #155 will again be opening the Thrift Shop for business on Friday, February 11, from 4 to 8 pm and Saturday, February 12, from 9:30 am to noon. The shop is located at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church (second floor) on Main Street, Hoosick Falls.

Sledding Event And Races On The Greenway

There will be a sledding event and sled races on Saturday, February 19, from 1 to 3 pm, weather permitting, on the short hill on the Greenway near the old water works plant off Carey Avenue in Hoosick Falls. Build or decorate your own sled and bring it. Prizes will be given for the most creative sled concept and fastest sled-pullers.

Boy Scout Troop 65 Chili Sale To Benefit Cystic Fibrosis

Once again scouts from Troop 65 will be selling their homemade chili in front of the Grand Union from 10 am  to 2 pm on Sunday, February 6. Treat yourself to a fresh bowl of chili complete with cornbread and the fixin’s for only $7. All proceeds are donated to the Northeastern NY  Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
