Adapt Planning For After-Prom Celebration
ADAPT (Alcohol Drug Abuse Prevention Team), a committee responsible for planning and hosting a safe, substance-free after-prom celebration for the high school juniors and their guests, is underway with its planning sessions. The committee is looking for HFCS Class of 2012 parents/guardians to join in the planning sessions and fund raising efforts for this event.
The committee began meeting in late January and will have regular meetings every other Tuesday in the HFCS Elementary School library from 6:30 to 8 pm. The next meeting will be held on March 1.

Hoosick Baseball & Softball Registration
The Town of Hoosick Baseball & Softball will register players at the Hoosick Area Youth Center, 115 Church Street, Hoosick Falls, on Saturday, February 26, from 10 am to 2 pm. Girls and boys ages 4 to 12 can sign up for baseball or softball for opening day April 23. Great news is that the registration fee is lower. The cost is $50 for a single player, $80 for two players and $5 for each additional player. You do not have to live in the township to sign up. Any questions, please call Beth Cipperly 518-686-5450.
Cheney Library Storytime
Break out of the winter doldrums and welcome spring during storytime at Cheney Library in Hoosick Falls. It will begin on March 1 at 10 am in the Library. We will have fun with stories, singing, crafts and snacks. This storytime is ideal for pre-school children and their caregivers. We do have a lot of fun so come and join us. The Library hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday 1 – 8 pm; Tuesday 10 am – 5 pm; Friday 11 am – 4 pm; and Saturday 8 am -1 pm.

Fund Raiser For Correctional Officer Ron Jacques And Family
Two weeks ago, Correctional Officer Ron Jacques and his family suffered a devastating fire at their home in Hoosick Falls. They lost their home and nearly all of their possessions including several beloved family pets.
Sheriff Mahar, his deputies, staff and Ron’s fellow correctional officers will be holding a fund raiser to assist Ron and his family during this very difficult time on Sunday, February 20, from 1 to 5 pm at the Italian Community Center, 1450 5th Ave., Troy. A donation of $25 per individual or $40 per couple is requested.

Beverly M. Yavaniski
Hoosick Falls – Beverly M. Johnson Yavaniski, 78, of Dolan Avenue, Hoosick Falls, NY, died on Sunday evening, February 13, 2011, at the Hoosick Falls Health Center where she has resided since November.
Born in the Town of Saratoga on December 12, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mamie Gifford Johnson. She was the loving wife of the late Charles G. Yavaniski, who died on March 20, 1998. They were married on February 27, 1960, and Beverly had been a resident of Hoosick Falls since then.

Metered Billing At Last

The Village of Hoosick Falls will finally begin metered water billing. Residents and businesses will see the results with the new billing cycle in August 2011. The cycle is three payments for residential properties, made in August and November of one year and February of the next year, and twice yearly for businesses. The new billing plan was approved at the regular meeting of the Village Board on Tuesday, February 8, after the close of the public hearing on the rates.
