Karen McGovern Volleyball Tourney Is Saturday

September 5, 2014 By eastwickpress

The Karen McGovern Volleyball Tourney is this Saturday, September 6, at the Sandbar. Money raised from this tourney helps numerous families and individuals in our area cope with cancer or other life threatening or long term illnesses. Our funds provide money to help with travel, medical equipment or other living expenses associated with these illnesses.

This year we honor two very special people who were instrumental in not only this tournament but in Karen’s life as well – Isabelle McGuire and Matt Philpott. The Tourney begins around 9:30 or 10 am, and the awards and acknowledgements will be at noonish when we break for lunch. The Sandbar has been very generous over the years and provides food and the courts for the day. Hope to see you there!

Wild BBQ At Brown’s Brewery Sold Out

August 29, 2014 By eastwickpress

by Bea Peterson

As a television producer, Hoosick native George Verschooer has to have big ideas, and he was in the midst of big ideas on Wednesday evening, August 27, at Brown’s Brewery in North Hoosick. “What Garry and Kelly Brown have done here is outstanding,” he said. He also noted that pulling off the impossible week after week with Cabin Kings “Tuffy” Pat Bakaitis and Paulie DeMeo of Building Wild on the National Geographic Wild network is pretty remarkable as well. “I wanted a show that would shine a light on this beautiful area,” he said. That led to the reason for the celebration of the first major event at the Brown’s Brewing Company on Factory Hill Road; an event to support the nonprofit land trust, Greenwich based Agricultural Stewardship Association, that helps landowners conserve farmland in Washington and Rensselaer Counties.
