A number of local students were recently named to the President’s List at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy for the Fall 2013 academic term.

A Dinner For Dan

The Hoosick Falls Central School District and HAYC3 are proud to co-sponsor a spaghetti dinner in honor of Dan Williams. The dinner will be served in the cafeteria at the Hoosick Falls Central School from 4 to 6 pm on Friday, January 17.
Anyone who knows Dan knows that he is an incredible guy. Whether he is driving a school bus or working at his job at St. Gobain, he has always been there for his riders and his co-workers. Now the community is going to be there for him.
HFCS administrators and faculty will be serving the spaghetti dinner, which includes all-you-can-eat spaghetti and sauce, meatballs, garlic bread, cake and drinks. Take-out is available.
All proceeds from this event will be used to help Dan Williams and his family. Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for kids 4-12. Children under four eat free. You can get tickets in advance through HAYC3 at The Youth Center, 115 Church Street, Hoosick Falls, weekdays between 10:30 am and 6 pm, at the Hoosick Falls Central School, at the Hoosick Federal Credit Union or at the door. Roger Hall Sr.
Hoosick – Roger Hall Sr., 89, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2013, at the Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation at Hoosick Falls. He had resided in Hoosick, NY, and was the husband of the late Viola Hall, who passed away on November 20, 2013. Roger met Viola in 1946 at the Woolworth’s store candy counter in Bennington, VT, where she was working.
Born on August 2, 1924, in Bennington, Roger was the son of the late Ralph and Florence (Fields) Hall. He graduated from Walter A. Wood High School in Hoosick Falls, NY. Roger was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps serving from 1943 to 1946. He was employed at Haynes Ford as a mechanic for over forty years. Roger was a member of the Teton RV Club and the American Legion in Hoosick Falls. He was a lifetime member of the Hoosick Fire Department and an original member of the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad. He enjoyed gardening and restoring old cars.
Survivors include his sons, Roger Hall Jr. of Hoosick Falls and Rodney Hall and wife Donna of Shaftsbury, VT, five grandchildren, Linda Barnes, Reann Hall, Russell Hall, Ross Hall and Jenifer Weber, and two great-grandchildren, John Barnes and Alexandria Hall.
Funeral services were Thursday, January 9, at 10 am, from the Mahar Funeral Home. Burial followed the service at the Mapletown Cemetery in Hoosick. Relatives and friends called at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 to 7 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation at Hoosick Falls through the funeral home, 43 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, New York, 12090.

HAYC3 is in the midst of its annual fund raising. Check the HAYC3 website for a letter from Board President Michael Baker listing all the accomplishments of HAYC3 in 2013. The goal is to make 2014 an even better year. That requires funds, hence the fund raising.

Hoosick Planning Board Action – December 2013

Hubbard Trust
Attorney George Holbrook addressed the Planning Board regarding property on Route 22 in North Hoosick which was made up of 10 continuous small lots. Holbrook said the property was first subdivided in the late 1800s. In order to settle the estate he requested the property be made into a two lot simple subdivision with two thirds of the lot going with the small Hubbard house and the rest of the property being made one lot. The Board reviewed the map and approved the plan as a simple subdivision.
Barr Realty Property
Holbrook’s second request was regarding property owned by Barr Realty. The property is in North Hoosick, east of Cobble Hill Road and Route 67. After reviewing the map the Board approved the change he requested as a boundary line adjustment.

Events To Support This Year’s 2014 Hoosick Falls St. Patrick’s Parade
The Shamrock Cash Raffle is now underway. First prize is $200, second is $150 and third prize is $50. Tickets are available at True Value, Thorpe’s Pharmacy and The Falls Diner. The drawing will be held on January 16.
On February 1 at the Sand Bar starting at 2 pm, the Irish Stew cook-off, Irish drink contest and Irish road bowling tournament will be held. Stop in for great music and fun.
The Irish Basket Bingo is on Thursday, January 16, at Immaculate Conception Church Hall. Doors open at 5 pm, pre-sale of tickets available at True Value, Thorpe’s Pharmacy or committee members for $10. Extra games will be available at the door – 18 regular games, 3 special games (extra fee). There will be food for purchase – hot dogs, pizza and baked goods. Some of the baskets are chocolate basket, Irish basket and more.

Cheney Library Book Sale
The Cheney Library in Hoosick Falls will have its monthly book sale on January 4 beginning at 8 am. The book sale runs until 1 pm. This month all books are half price; so books will cost $.25 and $.50. This will be a good opportunity to enlarge your personal libraries. Hope to see you at the sale.
Cheney Library hours are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 1 to 8 pm, Tuesday 10 am to 5 pm, Friday 11 am to 4 pm and Saturday 8 am to 1 pm.
