Barr Family Dedicates SVMC Women’s Imaging Center Waiting Room

Patricia Barr, local and national breast cancer advocate, who died of breast cancer in 2003, was honored at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center (SVMC) in the Women’s Imaging Center. Barr’s family, including her mother Marie Barr, husband, Rolf Sternberg, and children Shira and Tava Sternberg, dedicated the Women’s Imaging Center waiting room in loving memory of Patricia with a plaque.

The First Irish Open Crazy Pin Golf Scramble

The Hoosick Falls Country Club will play host on Saturday, October 2, to the First Annual Irish Open Crazy Pin Golf Scramble with a shotgun start at 10 am. The entry fee is $50.
Come join the fun with the crazy pin locations, prizes and food. The event is a benefit for the Hoosick Falls St. Patrick’s Parade and Irish Festival.

The Annual Republican Golf Tournament

The Town of Hoosick Republican Party will host its annual golf tournament on Sunday, September 26, at the Hoosick Falls Country Club with an 8:30 am shotgun start. The tournament will be a four man scramble format with 18 holes. Lunch will be served and several prizes will be awarded.  You can win $20,000 with a hole-in-one.
There are not many days left to golf before the leaves change color and the snow falls. So call Dave McCabe now at 518-686-4889 to sign up your team and join in on the fun.

Corn Maze At Kettle Farms

This year Tammy’s Candy Kettle on NY Route 7 has more to offer than ever before. Besides the 22 acre corn maze, which is touted as the largest corn maze on the east coast, there are corn cannon and pumpkin slingshots, moonlight mazes and flashlight nights, country music jams, contests and much more. The maze has four separate sections for a total of 8.8 miles of trails.

North Petersburgh Farm Wins Blue Ribbon At The Fair

The Schaghticoke Fair was last week. The first few days were really hot, but the weekend was glorious and the weather was perfect for strolling through the exhibits. Some families have been exhibiting at the Fair for 50 years or more. Today their children and grandchildren also show animals, participate in 4-H programs or exhibit crafts and more. Besides the rides, which the young people love, there were plenty of activities and interesting programs for young and old to enjoy and plenty of food to try as well.

The Karen McGovern Legacy Continues

Karen McGovern, a young vivacious woman, loved by friends and family, was stricken with cancer and put up a valiant, but unsuccessful battle against the disease. She passed away eleven years ago. Yet her memory lives on in Hoosick Falls almost every day and especially on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend. That is the date of the Karen McGovern Volleyball Tournament. I am responding to the letter from Mr. Bob Rubin, who expressed concern over Fishers (martes pennanti) as a threat to domestic cats and dogs (Eastwick Press August 20 issue). Vacation Bible School Raises Money For Veterans Memorial Wall

The High Seas Expedition Vacation Bible School sponsored by the Hoosick Falls First Baptist Church and First United Presbyterian Church was held July 19 to 23. This year’s Mission Project was the Veterans Memorial Wall in Wood Park in Hoosick Falls. A free will offering was taken at the opening program each night during VBS.
