On July 2, the Winter Green-up Committee, Cornell Cooperative Extension Albany County and Black Queen Angus Farm, LLC will host a presentation and pasture walk by famed grazier and Holistic Planning expert, Ian Mitchell-Innes.

Ian Mitchell-Innes is a South African who began high stock density grazing on his operation many years ago in an effort to take his farm into both financial profitability and ecological enhancement. The Berlin July 4th Parade Committee invites you to tell your Tall Tales with a float in the 2015 parade which kicks off at 11 am on Saturday, July 4th. Tell everyone your tallest tale and maybe even win a cash prize for doing so. There is no entry fee. The Grand Prize float is awarded $125. All Are Invited To “Bernie Sanders For President” Open House

A “Bernie Sanders for President” open house on Wednesday, June 10 from 6:30 to 8 pm at the New Lebanon Town Hall at 14755 Route 22 North, New Lebanon, NY.

This event is sponsored by Progressive Democrats of America (PDA), and is to rally interest from people to become actively involved in Sanders’ campaign.  We will be showing a few short videos with Bernie speaking and then we’ll Skype with Mike Fox, an organizer for PDA in Florida.  Refreshments will be served. All are welcome!

New Lebanon Student Leaders Recognized At HVCC

Six Walter B. Howard Elementary School students were recognized for their commitment to education and health during the 30th Annual Sandra G. Morley Physical Education Student Leadership Awards at Hudson Valley Community College on May 4.

The awards are sponsored by the Capital Zone of the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (AHPERD).

NLHS Student Named Capital District “Outstanding Business Student”

On May 7, New Lebanon High School senior Colleen Kroboth was honored by the Capital District Business and Marketing Educators’ Association as an “Outstanding Business Student.” Kroboth was also the winner of a $1,000 scholarship presented by CapCom Federal Credit Union.

New Lebanon Country Market At Windswept Farm Opens 2015 Season

The New Lebanon Country Market at Windswept Farm’s opening day for the 2015 season is Sunday, June 7 from 10 am to 2 pm!  We hope you can join us for a family fun day filled with live music by Chasin’ Grace, delicious hot food from Jem’s Thai Cuisine and Lakota BBQ for lunch, and of course all of our fabulous vendors.   Come fill your fridge with fresh, locally grown produce; local pasture raised meats and free range eggs; vegetable starts for your own garden at home; a variety of herbs and flowers; fresh made jams and jellies; delicious New Lebanon baloney and fresh sausage; gourmet infused salts and peppers; fresh baked goods; pickled products; handmade soaps and body care products; and much, much more!   Come support your local farmer’s and artisans and bring home fresh, local, delicious food!

The market will be held every Sunday from 10 am to 2 pm starting June 7 and continuing through September 27.  Each market will feature live music and/or a special event.  June’s entertainment calendar is as follows:

June 7 – Chasin’ Grace – this duo plays everything from Jim Whitaker to Darius Rucker, Cher, Smokey Robinson, showcasing a lot of variety of new/old country and contemporary music.

June 14 – Abby Lappen – a collection of original songs and meaningful covers in a cross genre mix, from haunting folk and satirical blues to jazzy ballads and syncopated melodies – check her out at www.abbylappen.com.

June 21 – Gardening fun for kids of all ages! – our very own vendors will give you tips on gardening and answer any questions you might have about growing your own garden at home.  There will also be an opportunity for you and the kids to plant your own organic seeds to bring home with you.

June 28 – Matchstick Architects – a combination of their own brand of driving original rock music and a selection of cover material played in their own unique way – check them out at www.tmaband.com.

New Lebanon Community Carnival Rescheduled To June 8

The Community Carnival originally scheduled for May 27 has been rescheduled and relocated. Please join us on Monday, June 8, 3 to 7 pm. at the Jr/Sr High School. Admission is $10 and includes all carnival games, access to swim in the pool, and dinner. Mini golf (18 holes) is available for $5 per round and build-your-own sundaes are $3. Students in grades 4 to 6 have the option of being bused to the carnival following dismissal from school, with permission.

Students in grades PK to 3 are welcome and encouraged to participate, but must have parental supervision at all times. All Proceeds benefit the New Lebanon Travel Club and the Class of 2017. For additional information, please visit www.newlebanoncsd.org.

New Lebanon CSD Seeks Community Input On Smart Schools Allocation

The New Lebanon CSD will host three community stakeholder meetings to gain input on how to best use the $288,073 in reimbursement funds allocated to the district through the Smart Schools Bond Act of 2014.

The meetings will be held: Tuesday, June 2, at 6:30 pm at the Walter B. Howard Elementary School library; Wednesday, June 3, at 6:30 pm in the Jr/Sr High School cafeteria; and Wednesday, June 10, at 7 pm as part of the Board of Education meeting held at the Walter B. Howard Elementary School library. All district residents are welcome and encouraged to attend.

The Smart Schools Bond Act of 2014 authorizes the distribution of $2 billion statewide to finance improved educational technology and infrastructure to improve learning and opportunity for students. Examples of approved projects include broadband Internet, the installation of high-tech security, capital projects to expand Pre-K instructional space, and the acquisition of technology such as laptops or tablet computers.
