Musician and educator Allen Livermore will lead a Community Drum Circle on Monday, August 13, at 6:30 pm at the New Lebanon Library. The free program, which offers participants the opportunity to play as part of drum circle, improvise and have fun, is open to all ages and all levels of prior experience. Participants can bring their own drums, shakers, cowbells and other percussion instruments or borrow ours.

Tsatsawassa Pig Roast
On Saturday, August 18, the Tsatsawassa Protective Fire Company Inc. will hold its 24th Annual Pig Roast on the Fire House grounds located just off Route 20 in the hamlet of Brainard. Doors will open at 1 pm, and the afternoon will be filled with fun events, including door prizes and games as well as hot dogs, sausage, hamburgers and drinks, all the while the ‘whole pig’ covered with foil, will be roasting on the spit in view of the attendees.

Chatham Brewing Named Best Craft Beer Brewery In The Hudson Valley
On April 28, Chatham Brewing LLC won the 2012 Matthew Vassar Brewers’ Cup for the Best Craft Beer Brewery in the Hudson Valley at TAP New York, the state’s largest craft beer festival and competition that is held every year at Hunter Mountain in the Catskills. Chatham Brewing LLC is located in Chatham and is the only brewery in Columbia County.

Songwriting Workshops At The New Lebanon Library
Linda Worster, Berkshire based performing songwriter, will conduct two songwriting workshops this summer at the New Lebanon Library. The first, for children ages 8-13, will be held on Tuesday, July 31, from 2 to 4 pm. The second, for teens and adults, will be held on Thursday, August 2, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Misty Blues To Perform At The New Lebanon Library
Berkshire band Misty Blues will be performing at the New Lebanon Library on Friday, July 27, from 7 to 9 pm. The band will perform a combination of traditional blues and contemporary pieces.
Misty Blues features vocalist Gina Coleman, who has been performing in and around the Berkshires since 1990. She has appeared at the Williamstown Theater Festival and Mass MoCA, and, by day, is an Associate Dean at Williams College. Appearing with Coleman will be guitarist Jason Webster, who has performed with Arlo Guthrie, Little Feat and Pete Seeger, and Berkshire bass player Bill Patriquin.

Community Butterfly Release In New Lebanon
The New Lebanon Library will conduct a community butterfly release on Thursday, August 9, at 1:30 pm. The release ceremony will include butterfly education, which will be conducted by Lindsay Kuhn of Smoke Ridge Organic Farm in Bloomfield, NY.
During this event, participants will learn to identify host and nectar plants, what monarch butterfly eggs, larvae and pupal forms look like, how to tell a male from a female butterfly and why males have pheromone pouches on their wings.
