Motocross Environmental Impact Statement Not Yet Adequate

Howard Commander’s Draft Environmental Impact Statement for his proposed Motocross park was deemed not yet adequate for public review by the Stephentown Zoning Board of Appeals at their meeting on August 2. The Board accepted a recommendation from their consulting engineer, Michael Bianchino of Clough Harbour Associates (CHA), who had reviewed the DEIS and found a number of areas lacking sufficient information. Something For Everyone At The Lebanon Valley Farmer’s Market

The Lebanon Valley Farmer’s Market has an array of produce, meats, baked goods, eggs, the crafts of local artisans, live music and special events. More summer treats, like Sungold tomatoes, berries, pies, and corn keep emerging from excellent vendors. Pick up cheese, bread, flowers, soaps and lotions, garlic, coffee beans, hummus, jam, lemonade and an empanada lunch, too.

August Events At The New Lebanon Library

The New Lebanon Library announces the following August events. All of these events are free and will take place at the library which is located at 550 State Route 20.
• August  15, 22, 29 (event is on Wednesdays) – Tales for Tots Story Hour – 10:30 am. Story hour includes crafts, songs and movement activities.
• August  15, 22, 29 (event is on Wednesdays) – Hug-A-Bye Babies – noon; age appropriate stories, songs and movement activities for our youngest patrons and their caregivers.
• August  16, 23, 30 (event is on Thursdays) – Bright Beginnings Story Hour and Play Group – 11 am to 2 pm. Meet other parents and care providers while your child aged 0-5 hears a story then socializes with other children in an unstructured, educational setting.

David Grover In New Lebanon

Renowned Berkshire musician David Grover will perform at New Lebanon Library on August 17 at 7 pm. The event, which is oriented towards teens and adults, is free and open to the public.
Grover has been compared to Paul Simon, James Taylor and Raffi. His folksy message songs make him irresistible across the generations.  He spent many years as Arlo Guthrie’s lead guitar and band leader and his Big Bear Band has performed at the White House.
The Library is located at 550 State Route 20, ¼ mile north of the yellow blinking light at the intersection of Routes 20/22.

New Lebanon High School Reunion

Robert Burns, New Lebanon High School Class of 1949, had a goal some years ago – to increase the turnout for the annual Alumni Reunion Dinner to at least 200. So he began picking up the tab each year for the entire Dinner. On Saturday, July 28, with Burns playing host at the Stephentown Fire Hall for the seventh year in a row, the attendance was over 220 including about 152 graduates representing the Class of 1935 through the Class of 2007.

Columbia County Schoolgirl Queen To Be Crowned August 31 At The Columbia County Fair

Representatives of Columbia County’s six public high schools will compete for the title of 2012 Schoolgirl Queen on Friday, August 31, in one of the Columbia County Fair’s most popular and enduring traditions.
At 6:30 pm the gowned contestants will arrive at the stage in front of the grandstand in vintage convertibles and be introduced by emcees Meg Dooley and Cathie Lee Visscher.
Judging is based on personality, poise and appearance. The winner will be crowned by last year’s Queen, Sarah Elise Risko from New Lebanon High School, and receive a $500 prize.

Cemetery Of The Evergreens Benefit

On Monday, August 13, the Theater Barn will present the Cabaret/ Concert Duo, Vicki And Clif Act II,  as a benefit for The Cemetery of the Evergreens.  Having performed in both musical theater and opera for over 20 years, they have put together this Cabaret, featuring songs that everyone knows and loves, and performed it up and down the east coast for the past five years to rave reviews.

Chickens From Around The World

New Lebanon Library will present the workshop Chickens from Around the World on Friday, August 10, at 2 pm. This event, which is free and open to the public, is appropriate for children, although patrons of all ages are encouraged to attend.
Lindsay Kuhn of Smoke Ridge Organics Farm will introduce fifteen live, leashed chickens from around the world – speckled Sussex from England, blue Andalusians from Spain, glossy black Sumatras, araucana from South America, cuckoo maran from France and others who lay different colors and sizes of eggs. Participants will learn the history and unique characteristics of these breeds, along with basic animal husbandry skills. Children will be allowed to pet the chickens, too.

Collage Workshops At The New Lebanon Library

Ruth J. Abram, Columbia County artist, will conduct two collage workshops this summer at the New Lebanon Library. The workshops will be held on Wednesday, August  8, and Tuesday, August 21. The August 8 workshop, which is geared towards children aged five and up, will be held from 3:30 to 5 pm. The August 21 session, which is primarily for teens and adults, will be from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Both events are free and open to the public. Advanced registration is recommended by calling the Library at 518-794-8844 or emailing leb@taconic.net.
