Guided Footsteps At The United Methodist Church, Berlin

“Guided Footsteps” is a liturgical dance group from the Emmaus United Methodist Church. This group wants to perform and share their dance ministry in a way that would appeal to all. With the assistance of dedicated adult volunteers, the youth formed the group, scheduled rehearsals and raised funds for uniforms. The youth range in age from 9 to 18 years of age and are a culturally diverse group of young people with a choreographer, Dayshawn Jones, who is a young person dedicated to dance.

Fast Work Saves House In Hoosick Falls

The Hoosick Falls Police Department and the Hoosick Falls Fire Department responded to an alarm at 65 Abbott Street around 1:30 am Tuesday morning, January 11. Upon arrival small flames could be seen from a rear bedroom. Fire Chief Robert Bornt called immediately for assistance to fight the fire as heavy smoke engulfed the home. A second alarm was cast dispatching Buskirk, North Hoosick, West Hoosick and Johnsonville FD for the fast team led by Chief Shane Napoli. All the occupants left the house safely.

Stephentown ZBA Is Lead Agency On Motocross Park

Stephentown’s Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) has some new faces. At their Organizational Meeting last week the Town Board appointed Peter Ellard to fill a vacancy left by the resignation in November of Jack Liebenow. Ellard, a 12-year resident of Stephentown residing on Newton Road, is a professor of environmental ethics at Siena College where he is also Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Another vacancy occurred as a result of Robert Mittnight’s term expiring at the end of 2010. The Town Board chose Freling Smith to fill that seat. Smith, who has served on the Planning Board since January 2007, will be resigning from that position.

Hearing On Water/Sewer Rates Draws Overflow Crowd

It was standing room only for the regular monthly meeting of the Hoosick Falls Village Board on Tuesday evening, January 11. Residents and small business owners crowded the meeting room for the Public Hearing to review the new proposed water and sewer rates. Realtors Rick Tinkham and Kendal Baker, along with Ice Kreme Kafé owner Kevin O’Malley, challenged the Board’s decision to make the basic water and sewer rate for businesses double that of residences. Sporty Stephentown Fire Department Installation

Sports was the theme at the Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department Installation Dinner last Saturday evening. People came dressed in sweat shirts with their favorite team names and logos. There was much good natured bantering between Red Sox fans and Yankees fans. Tammy Madden was seen tooling a remote controlled NASCAR vehicle all around the floor of the Fire Hall. And the local Girl Scouts had done up place mats for each table setting, each one, hand drawn, depicting a scene related to soccer, baseball, basketball, football or other sport. Hoosick Town Board Action – January 2011

Snow was the first topic of the Town of Hoosick Board meeting on Monday, January 10. The Town received a thank you from the Village of Hoosick Falls for the whole day of snow cleanup help received from the Town Highway Dept. HFCS was appreciative of the help from Board Member Louis Schmigel when it came to helping clean up snow at the school.

Two Locals Honored By The Rensselaer County Legislature

Resolutions honoring two citizens from eastern Rensselaer county were passed at the Rensselaer County Legislature’s meeting on Tuesday evening. One citizen, in the prime of life, was recognized for his service to the community and his potential for the future. The other was memorialized for a long life well lived and decades of commitment to his community.

Weir Trust Benefits Hoosick Organizations

Representatives from Hoosick area organizations made their way through several inches of snow Saturday, January 8, to the Cheney Library to receive checks from the Harry Weir Charitable Trust. Public Invited To Help Shape Future Of Grafton Lakes State Park

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation invites the public to participate in developing a comprehensive master plan for Grafton Lakes State Park. A preliminary meeting to help define a long term vision for the Park will be held at 7 pm on Thursday, January 27, in the auditorium of Tamarac High School in Brunswick.
