Georges Seurat And Erik Satie Featured In Berlin Library Finale

On Wednesday, August 11, the Berlin Free Town Library presented its Summer Reading Program Finale, “Go With The Flow.”  This summer’s theme was “Make A Splash at Your Library.”
Over the last six weeks, 65 area children ages 3 to 18, parents and community volunteers took part in an art, theater and music production that brought to life Georges Seurat’s famous pointillist painting “Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte.”

Aqua Vista Community Benefit

On July 17 rain and 80 mile per hour winds whipped through Aqua Vista Campground in Petersburgh. “The weatherman told us the eye of the storm was right here,” said Lee Weliczka. She and her husband Mike Weliczka own and operate the campground with their little daughter Anika.

Honor Guard Welcomes Home WW II Veteran’s Remains

Members of the New York Army National Guard Military Forces Honor Guard helped welcome home the remains of Army Air Corps 1st Lt. Ray Fletcher at Albany International Airport on Wednesday, August 18, for his final transportation home to Vermont. The remains will be escorted by Army Capt. Hugo Flores-Diaz.
On May 10, 1944, a B-25C Mitchell Bomber piloted by 1st Lieutenant Ray F. Fletcher of the 57th Bombardment Wing disappeared on the island of Corsica in the Mediterranean Theater during a routine courier flight. Local Corsicans reported a crash site to French police (Gendarmerie) just three days later.

Petersburgh Library News

The Petersburgh Public Library summer reading program has been completed.  A party celebrating the reading done by all ages was held on August 18 which included music with Floyd Smith and Martha von Schilgen.  Thirty five children and teens completed the reading requirements.  Younger children read 347 books and older children and teens read 19,506 pages.  All the children who completed the program were awarded a certificate, canvas tote bag, sports bottle and two books of their choosing.
