Head Man Dancing

As the Grand Entry gets under way at the 5th Annual Rock, Rattle & Drum Pow Wow and Spirit on the Mountain Music Festival Saturday at Gardner’s Field in Stephentown, the Head Dancers will be leading the colorful parade. The Head Lady Dancer this year is Donna Eagle Staff of Eagle Butte, South Dakota. The Head Man Dancer is George Emerson Lee, born in Wide Ruins, Arizona. It’s the job of the head dancers to lead off every song and lead the other dancers onto the field.

Hoosick Girls Soccer Wins In Italy

More than 40 people joined Hoosick Falls Central School girls soccer coach Tom Husser on a memorable trip to Europe in late July. Fourteen girls from HFCS, one gal from Schuylerville, one from Loudonville and two from Seattle, WA, made up Husser’s girls soccer team that played in the Valtellina Football Cup in Italy. Commander Concedes

Howard Commander has conceded to the vacating and annulling of the Stephentown Zoning Board’s recent action which had granted him a variance to build a Motocross sports park adjacent to his Lebanon Valley Speedway. Appearing last Friday before Judge Roger McDonough in State Supreme Court at the Courthouse in Troy, Commander’s attorney, Frank Roche, agreed to abide by a preliminary injunction that was to be drawn up which would halt any work on the park until such time as proper permits are granted by the Town of Stephentown. The Chris Gibson for Congress campaign will come to eastern Rensselaer County with the 20th Congressional District candidate hosting a Town Hall-style event in Grafton.
The Gibson In Your Corner event will be held at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall on South Road, just off Route 2 in Grafton at 7 pm  on Monday, August 16. Residents are encouraged to attend to hear Gibson discuss issues facing the nation and the 20th Congressional District.

Stephentown Debates Acquiring Property On Grange Hall Road

The Stephentown Town Board held a public hearing on Monday to hear what residents think about buying the property between the Town Garage and the Stephentown Memorial Library. Town Supervisor Larry Eckhardt reported at last month’s Town Board meeting that the owner of the property would be selling and wanted to give the Town the opportunity to make a first offer. Hoosick Town Board Action – Town Taking Over Dog Licensing

At the Hoosick Town Board meeting on Monday, August 9, Hoosick Town Clerk Sue Stradinger told the Board she had received word from NYS Agriculture and Marketing that that department would no longer be doing the billing for dog licenses. She gave copies of the lengthy document she took off the internet containing the NYS guidelines which must be followed for Towns to bill for the licenses and how they are to establish a budget line for fees collected and how to set up fees for sheltering strays. New Lebanon Landfill Issue Resurfaces

The highlight of the New Lebanon Town Board meeting on Monday, August 9, concerned the former landfill off of Old Post Rd. The DEC requires that the landfill be closed, but the closing process costs approximately $1.4 million. Unless Columbia County assumes responsibility for closing the landfill, however, New Lebanon may be legally obligated to foot the entire bill.
