The Girl Can Play

Chelsea Stevens loves baseball. So does her younger brother Andrew. Good thing, because their father, Ken, is a baseball nut. He has been collecting baseball cards and baseball memorabilia since he was four years old. He played baseball at HFCS, where he won the Frank Stevens Award, and in college at SUNY Oneonta. His team won the All SUNY championship in 1987. The children’s mom, Margaret is not a sports nut, but she is a great cheerleader. Ken has played an active role in the Hoosick Youth Softball and Baseball program since his children have been involved.

Rensselaer County Legislature – Red Sox Nation

Connor McCart and his family appeared in the well of the Rensselaer County Legislature during the presentation period of the Legislature’s session on Tuesday, August 10. McCart had been honored in a resolution passed last month recognizing his achievement of being chosen to compete in Yankee Stadium on June 19 in Major League Baseball’s Pitch, Hit and Run Competition and for capturing second place in his age group.

Farrara’s Restaurant

Robert Farrara is very pleased with his new restaurant on Classic St. “It’s going very well,” he said. “I’m very pleased with the Village Board, the Planning Board and the public. They have made it a very business friendly atmosphere.” Farrara felt that there was a need for more dining variety in the Village, and he had a desire to create a cocktail lounge with background music where the older set would feel comfortable enjoying some wine or a cocktail. New Principal For Elementary School

At its regular meeting on August 4 the New Lebanon Central School Board and Administration welcomed Rebecca Marzeski to the District. Beginning on August 9, she will become the Principal of Walter B. Howard Elementary School.
Little Impact From State Budget
Although four months late, the New York State budget finally passed. While it is uncertain how much the budget will affect New York State’s schools, the New Lebanon administration was confident that it would have little impact on the 2010-2011 school budget. Hoosick Grange had a meeting on July 28 with Master David Cornell. Under new business, David told us that the heating plan and oil plan that we voted on was completed. He also discussed the fair booth. The Lecturer said she would tell more about it during the Lecturer’s program. Norma Brenenstuhl told about the Grangers that were remembered since the last meeting. Hoosick Falls Country Club Thursday Night Better Ball Winners

In Division One Kyle DeGraaf and Denny McEvoy won the Better Ball Gross portion of the Thursday Night League Gross/Net Better Ball competition with a two under par 32 for nine holes, The  score of 28 by Brad Eastman and Mike Hickey took Low Net.

Texas Hold’em

The Veterans of Stephentown and the Stephentown Fire Department will sponsor a joint Texas Hold’em Tournament on Saturday, August 21, in the Stephentown Fire Hall, located on Grange Hall Road in Stephentown. The doors will open at 5 pm and close at 6 pm. Play begins at 6:15 sharp.

Memories Of Center Berlin

Sherman Jenne will present an evening of pictures and memories as a young boy growing up in Center Berlin to the Taconic Valley Historical Society. The meeting will be held at the United Methodist Church, South Main Street, Berlin, on Monday, August 16, at 7:30 pm. There will be refreshments and a social time following the program. Everyone is welcome.
