Buskirk/Hoosick Falls – Nicholas Montemarano, 87, passed away on Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at the Hoosick Falls Health Center in Hoosick Falls, NY. He had resided on the Buskirk/West Hoosick Road in Buskirk, NY, with his wife Elsie (Lux) Montemarano, wife of sixty-two years.

A Celebration Of Life For Elizabeth S. “Betts” Miller

New Lebanon – Elizabeth “Betts” Steele Miller, 82, of  New Lebanon, NY,  died on Tuesday, February 9, 2010, at Fairview Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Great Barrington, MA, after a hip fracture in October of 2008 and resulting long illness.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 10, at 11am in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Route 20, New Lebanon. Relatives and friends are invited to the Church to greet the family starting  at 10 am.  Private interment will take place in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National  Cemetery.  Donations in Betts’ memory  (in lieu of flowers)  may be made to the Rett Syndrome Research Trust, the  International Rett Syndrome Foundation or the Hospice Care in the Berkshires in care of Hall & Higgins Funeral Home, P.O. Box 9, Stephentown, NY,  12168.

Betty Barber Elders

Hoosick Falls – Betty Barber Elders, age 86, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at the Community Hospice Inpatient Center in Vidalia, GA. She was born April 17, 1923, in Hoosick Falls, NY, to Harold and Kathryn Barber. Betty attended Troy Business College in Troy, NY, and Georgia Teacher’s College in Statesboro, GA.

Parking Fees To Rise At Grafton Lakes State Park

New York State Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation officials identified $4 million in fee increases to take effect for the 2010 season. The increased revenues are built into the 2010-11 fiscal year budget plan that calls for closing and reduced operations at dozens of state parks and historic sites and will not change the number of parks and historic sites slated for those cutbacks.

All Saints Church To Host “Lessons from Africa”

Last year, as a newly ordained Episcopal Deacon, Reverend Frank Lockwood traveled to Nigeria. Like so many who embark on mission work, he would find the experience profoundly moving and rich in life lessons. Meeting On Rensselaer Plateau Legacy Area Is Packed

DEC officials are convinced that designating the Rensselaer Plateau as a Forest Legacy Area would make good environmental and economic sense. New Life For The Elks Club Building In Hoosick Falls

Terry McGuire, owner of Artistic Hair Designs has always wanted to open a spa in Hoosick Falls. “It’s been a dream for a long time,” she said. “And when opportunity knocks, you take advantage of it, because it doesn’t knock twice in the same spot.” Business partner Kimberly Revet began operating Nirvana Day Spa from Terry’s building a year ago. The atmosphere at the neat brick Elm St. location is warm, friendly… and crowded. The two women had been talking for some time about finding a new location. “I’m tired of looking out my window and seeing crumbling buildings with broken windows and graffiti,” said Terry. So, when the two learned the price of the Elks Club on Church St. had been drastically reduced, they jumped at the chance to purchase it. The purchase price was $38,500.

Ward Stone Featured At Outdoor Expo

Hoosick Falls Central School held its Second Annual Outdoor Expo March 26 and 27. On Friday elementary students, armed with colorful questionnaires asking them to find birds, animals and information, scrambled past the many exhibits that filled the high school gymnasium. New York Lottery Awards $25,000 Cash Prize To North Petersburgh Instant Game Winner

The New York Lottery announced Monday that Michael Quick of North Petersburgh won $25,000 on the Lottery’s Fat Wallet instant game. Quick’s winning ticket was purchased at the Stewart’s Shop at 50 Freemans Bridge Road in Scotia.
