Easter Breakfast At The Berlin Fire Department

On Easter Sunday, April 4, from 7 to 11 am, the Berlin Fire Department will be holding its monthly breakfast. The Petersburgh Veterans Memorial Community Center is pleased to announce an award of $1,000 from the Stewart’s Holiday Match Fund. This funding supports the hiring of program leaders for teen programs at PVMCC. To celebrate this award, Teen Night has been scheduled for Friday, April 9, from 7 to 9:30 pm, supervised by Kasson Sauer. DJ music will be provided by Aaron Willis. There will be complimentary root beer floats for all! The entrance fee is $2.

Since 2003, under the guidance of founder and Artistic Director Steven Marking, the local non-profit performing arts group “You Gotta Hear This!” has been merrily making its way through the Great American Songbook. The March 27 concert “Disney & the Duke” will be Marking’s final local performance before he returns to his hometown of La Crosse, WI, to pursue other professional opportunities. Born in Johnsonville, NY, on November 18, 1918, Mr. Gardner was the son of the late LeRoy and Lelia (Salmon) Gardner. He grew up in Johnsonville and attended schools there and in Hoosick Falls, NY.

A number of residents are vehemently displeased with the Berlin Central School Board of Education’s decision to close Grafton Elementary. In what was seemingly an ordinary budget workshop on Tuesday, March 9, the Board elected, 4-3, with Board Members Tom Morelli, Beverly Stewart and Paul Greene voting against the proposal, to close the Grafton Elementary School in June. While Superintendant of Schools Charlotte Gregory cited enrollment decline and economic issues as the reasons for consolidation, many residents believe the District should have considered other options.
