It could not have been a better day for the first-ever Brown’s Brewing Covered Bridge Bicycle Tour. Gorgeous blue skies with a few wispy clouds, absolutely perfect. The riders were excited, yet relaxed, since this was a tour, not a race. Starting and finishing at Brown’s Walloomsac Brewery in Hoosick Falls, the non-competitive ride featured a tour of historic covered bridges over the majestic Hoosick and Battenkill Rivers. Michael and Erica Costello of 85 Old Road (Old Rt. 2) were arraigned Tuesday evening September 22 in Grafton Town Court on seven counts each of failing to provide sustenance, a violation of New York State Agriculture and Market laws, and one count each of creating conditions that endanger others, a class B misdemeanor. Grafton Library Lends Anti-Rent Flag To Albany Institute of History And Art
The Grafton Community Library is pleased to announce that it has lent the historic Anti-Rent Banner to the Albany Institute of History and Art until April 2016. The flag is featured in the exhibition Capital Region 50 Objects, which opened September 18. It portrays a man with a horn, small tomahawk and Indian headdress which were symbols of the Anti-Rent movement. Proposal For A Two Lot Subdivision Presented To Grafton Planning Board

Only one item of business was on the agenda for the September meeting of the Grafton Town Planning Board. It dealt with the recent purchase of approximately 22 acres of land on Claus Road by Alex Bassey. The applicant would like to divide the property into a plot, of about 8 acres which includes a residential home, and a second lot of the 14 remaining acres. Grafton Town Budget Proposal Calls For No Tax Rate Increase

Grafton Town Supervisor Frank Higgins presented his proposed budget to the Town Board during a workshop meeting Monday night, emphasizing the fact the town is under a very tight tax cap, and limited his spending projections to virtually the same levels as this year. Village Working Towards Demolition Of The American House

The Village Board approved a motion to hold a public hearing regarding The American House on Monday, September 28, starting at 6 pm at the Village Hall. The Village has finally gotten a response from the owner of the building; he acknowledged that he did indeed receive a letter from the Village requesting that he or his representative be at the public hearing. Stephentown Starts Budget Process

Town Supervisor Larry Eckhardt laid out the schedule for the 2016 Budget at Monday’s Town Board meeting. There will be a public workshop on Monday, October 5 to develop a Preliminary Budget. Discussion will continue at the Board’s regular workshop meeting on Monday, October 12 and at its regular meeting on Monday, October 19.
