Dyken Pond Winter Break Family Activities

• Snow Crafts – Saturday, December 27, from 1 to 3 pm. Kids of all ages are invited to come make some crafts outside in the snow. We will be making our own free form snow candles decorated with natural items (parents will need to help supervise young ones) and making our own maple syrup taffy in the snow. All crafts will be completed outside so please dress appropriately. There is a $1 materials fee.

Outdoor Tykes at 10:30 am. Join with other pre-school age children for a fun outing in the Park. Bundle up for a short hike where we’ll move like the animals and then come inside for a lantern nature craft. Meet at the Shaver Pond Center, 194 Shaver Pond Road in Grafton, NY. Pre-register, please, by calling 279-1155.

• December 17, Wednesday

Wandering Wednesday and Holiday Gathering at 4 pm.

Take a hike with Friends President Dorothy Surprise. Please bring a flashlight as night will fall during this program before you’re out of the woods. For the holiday party, bring a potluck dish to share. If weather permits, we’ll light a bonfire to welcome in winter. The hike begins at the Shaver Pond Center, 194 Shaver Pond Road in Grafton. Treasure Hunt at 10:30 am.

Use a treasure map to discover clues and search for signs of critters along this one mile exploration. If we succeed in finding all our clues, a treasure awaits. The cost is $2 per person or $5 per family. This is recommended for five to ten years olds, but younger siblings are welcome to tag along. This event will be held at the Shaver Pond Center, 194 Shaver Pond Road in Grafton. Please pre-register by calling 279-1155.

Christmas Cantata In New Lebanon And Stephentown

The choirs from the Immaculate Conception Church in New Lebanon and the Stephentown Federated Church in Stephentown, under the direction of Bev Westfall, Choir Director at the Stephentown Federated Church, have joined forces to produce a Christmas Cantata of music and readings.

High Pressure Gas Pipeline May Run Through Stephentown

A new high pressure gas pipeline, previously proposed to run through the towns of Chatham, Canaan and New Lebanon, may instead follow a new route further to the north, through the Town of Stephentown. A compressor station would also probably have to be built somewhere in that area to maintain the flow of gas.

After Years Petersburgh Passes Sub-Division Regs And Road Specs

The Petersburgh Town Board finally passed revised Subdivision Regulations and Road Specifications for the Town at its meeting on December 1, after a public hearing. The effort to rewrite these regulations and get them approved has been going on for several years so this action represents a significant milestone for the Town.

Petersburgh Special Meeting Records And Job Descriptions

At a Special Meeting held December 1, the Petersburgh Town Board took up a number of issues. First, they passed a resolution to adopt New York State’s archives records retention and disposition schedule, called Schedule MU-1, which details which records need to be kept and for how long. Town Clerk Deidra Michaels said she has been working with a woman from the New York State Archives to modernize the Town’s record keeping practices. Rensselaer County Legislature Adopts 2015 Budget With 1.48% Tax Levy Increase

Spending Plan Keeps Fourth Consecutive Budget Under Tax Cap

The Rensselaer County Legislature voted Monday to approve the 2015 County budget. The budget is based on a spending plan that allows the budget to remain under the state tax cap for the fourth consecutive year while protecting needed services.
