Henry W. Hurley

Hoosick Falls – Henry W. “Hank” Hurley, 72, passed away on Friday, November 7, 2014, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, VT. He had resided on Willow Street in Hoosick Falls, NY, with his companion of fifteen years, Deborah Mulready.

Born July 9, 1942, in Bennington, Hank was the son of the late Clarence and Laura (Woodard) Hurley. Hank was a self-employed carpenter throughout his life, taking great pride in his work. He was an avid NASCAR fan and owned a car that raced at Lebanon Valley Speedway. Hank was a member the Moose Lodge in Bennington and the St. Stanislaw Society in Hoosick Falls.

Survivors, other than his companion Deborah, include his children, Sherry Fitzpatrick of Spring Hill, FL, Virginia Hurley, Ronald Hurley of North Adams, MA, Donald Hurley of North Hampton, NY, and Todd Hurley of Sunderland, VT, his brothers, Robert Hurley of Eagle Bridge, NY, and Ralph Hurley of Pownal, VT, and his uncle, John Woodard of Easton, NY. He is also survived by five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Hank is pre-deceased by a sister, Edna, and three brothers, Clarence, Wallace and James.

Funeral services are Friday, November 14, at 7 pm from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 5 pm until the start of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Karen McGovern Memorial Fund through the funeral home.

Masquerade Cabaret A Huge Success

Close to 300 people filled the gymnasium at the Hoosac School on Saturday evening, November 1, for the Masquerade Cabaret to benefit the Isabel McGuire scholarship fund. Beloved HFCS math teacher, Honor Society mentor, school sports and arts supporter and community enthusiast, Isabel succumbed to cancer this past year. Gas Pipeline Meeting In New Lebanon

Hoosick Council Seat To Be Determined On Friday

A total of 1,933 people turned out to vote in Hoosick on Tuesday, November 4. The only local candidates running for office were Democrat and Hoosick First candidate Jenn Hyde and Republican Joyce Brewer. They were running for the Town Council seat left vacant by Mark Surdam when he became Town Supervisor last year. The term is for one year.

Wesley Edwards Retirement Reception

“I don’t think there’s another one in the State,” said Dennis Quinn, President of the New York State Magistrates Association when presenting a 50 year service pin to Wesley Edwards. The occasion was a retirement reception held at the Stephentown Fire Hall on Sunday, November 2, to honor Edwards, who at the end of the year will step down from the bench, having completed actually 51 years as judge in Stephentown.

2014 Eastwick Election Results

The General Election race for Governor reflected the earlier results of the Democratic Primary in which Governor Cuomo won against Zephyr Teachout statewide but did poorly in the Eastwick area and in upstate generally. In Tuesday’s election Cuomo defeated Republican challenger Rob Astorino taking 54% of the vote. All of the Eastwick towns, however preferred Astorino who won in Grafton with 67% and even squeaked by in New Lebanon with 47%. [Read more…] about 2014 Eastwick Election Results
