Following another serious incident with a tanker truck, members of the Rensselaer County Legislature are renewing the calls for a safety review on a section of State Route 7 in the Town of Hoosick.
Last week, a tanker truck left the road, slid down an embankment and burst into flames. The truck was carrying over 8,000 gallons of unleaded gasoline, and much of the gas went into a nearby creek.

Berlin Town Board Action – Berlin Receives $30k Grant

Near the end of the Berlin Town Board meeting on Thursday, February 14, Town Justice Joe Rechen announced, on his behalf and on behalf of Town Justice Don Sweet, that Berlin will receive $30,000 from the Office of Court Administration for renovations to the Justice Court area of the new municipal facility in Cherry Plain. The Berlin Justices had just received the notice. “The “check is in the mail,” Rechen said. He went on to say that this amount was the maximum entitlement Berlin could receive and was the full amount for which the Justices had applied.

According to Trooper Mark Cepiel of the NYS Police Troop G Public Information Office, at 4:07 pm on Tuesday, February 19, a 2012 Acura driven by William Farnan, Jr. of Franklin Lake, NJ, pulled into the path of a 2007 Freightliner tractor trailer heading east on Route 7. Stephentown Town Board Action – Town Appoints Attorney

The Town of Stephentown has paid out a considerable amount for legal advice and representation over the years but has not, at least in recent years, had an appointed Town Attorney. Town Supervisor Larry Eckhardt said at the Town Board meeting Monday that in his 13 years on the Board that position has never been filled. He said that he has been advised by both the Town’s Code Enforcement Officer and the Assessor that they are required by law to use an appointed Town Attorney for legal purposes. Craig Crist of the Albany law firm Dreyer Boyajian has been for a number of years the attorney that the Town relies on, but he was never appointed Town Attorney.

Helen Ellett Celebrates Her 99th Birthday

Helen Ellett of Grafton celebrated her 99th birthday in style – with many wonderful friends. On Friday, February 15, Helen celebrated 99 memorable years with her many good friends at the Everett Wagar Senior Center. A guest appearance by County Executive Kathy Jimino added in making this a very special day for Helen. Randy Kneer author of The Untold Story of Helen Ellett was also present to treat Senior Center visitors to a slide show.

Special Meeting Of The New Lebanon Town Board
The New Lebanon Town Board will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, February 26, at 7 pm at the New Lebanon Town Hall at 14755 Route 22. The record of the fiscal activities of the Town Board will become public record with the filing of the Annual Updated Document (AUD). Approving the AUD is the topic of the special meeting.
