To the Editor:
I am writing to clarify several points mentioned in the “Clerks and Secretaries” section of last week’s article [in The Eastwick Press] regarding the Petersburgh Town Board Meeting. While it is true that I do hold numerous positions in the Town, I have organized the responsibilities of each to avoid any possible conflicts. Discussions during this Board meeting involved only my positions as Town Clerk and Town Secretary, for which the duties have increased significantly in the past couple of years. The reason for addressing the “clerical and secretarial needs” of the Town is based upon the necessity of updating office procedures, record keeping, reporting processes and such to better accommodate the requirements of the Town and the State as well as the needs of public.
Regarding “unnecessarily raising the cost of Town government,” I would like the public to be made aware that my request has been for the hiring of Deputies to assist with the workload, for which monies have already been allotted for such purposes.
My only objective is to better serve the residents of the Town of Petersburgh by creating a more efficient and productive functioning government.
Respectfully,
Callie Crisp
Petersburgh Town Clerk

ADAPT Needs Community Support
The 29th Annual Hoosick Falls Central School (HFCS) substance-free after-prom celebration will take place on May 18 and 19, following the prom. The after-prom event is organized by the Class of 2014 parents/guardians and is fully supported by local businesses, organizations, neighbors and friends.
Prom and graduation season – April, May and June – is when a higher percentage of youth under the age of 21 are killed in alcohol and drug related accidents, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. With monetary donations, and contributions of supplies for fundraising events and gifts to be used for prizes, from people and organizations in the community, ADAPT will be able to continue the HFCS tradition of providing prom-goers with a safe and fun filled celebration and help reduce unnecessary injury and loss of life.
ADAPT thanks community members and organizations for considering a contribution by March 18. Questions can be directed to hfcs.adapt@gmail.com. Monetary donations, payable to ADAPT, can be sent to HFCS ADAPT, Hoosick Falls Central School, P.O. Box 192, Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090.
Meeting
Parents/guardians of juniors interested in joining ADAPT should plan to attend the next meeting on Monday, February 25, 6:30 pm, in the HFCS Elementary School Library.
Together – as a community – we should all strive to provide substance-free, memorable experiences for our youth.

Community Stephentown
Would you like a thriving community with local businesses that put money in the Town economy, save you miles of driving and offer you service on a first name basis? Community Stephentown is working to make that happen.
Formerly known as Sustainable Stephentown, Community Stephentown is working with local businesses to create a business directory. According to Tom Quimby, who is leading the effort, local businesses are key components of a thriving community. “Local businesses tend to hire and invest locally. Some local businesses create or grow their products locally, further supporting the economy. Creating this directory is one concrete step we can take toward supporting them,” said Quimby. Gathering the information is the first step toward creating the directory. The form and distribution of the directory will be decided after the information is gathered.
Community Stephentown invites businesses who would like to be listed in the directory, as well as people who want to become active in Community Stephentown, to send contact information to community.stephentown@gmail.com.
For more information, please visit the Community Stephentown website at http://stephentowncommunity.wikispaces.com/.

Grafton Barn Taken Down
by Alex Brooks
The big barn across Route 2 from the Fresh Air Home was taken down this week by contractor Dan Sherman and his company D & L Excavation. The roof has been buckling for several years now, and last December Grafton Building Inspector Tom Withcuskey contacted the owner to say that it had to be taken down before it fell down, and the owner, Michael Levy, agreed. Levy put the job out to bid, hired the contractor, and, on Sunday, February 10, it came down.
