December 14, 2012 By eastwickpress

by David Flint
The Stephentown Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) has been deliberating on Howard Commander’s proposal for a Motocross park in the south end of town since May of 2010. The regular meetings on this topic usually draw a sizable crowd from both the pro and the con side and the meeting on Tuesday of this week was no exception. It may be, however, that the ZBA is now actually approaching decision time. With the public comment period for the Draft Environmental Impact Statement concluding on Tuesday, the project now moves to the final EIS stage.

Youngster Burned By Gasoline

December 14, 2012 By eastwickpress

by Bea Peterson
According to his aunt, Brandi Thompson, 12 year old Tanner Thompson, a student at HFCS, received severe burns on his face, right hand and stomach on Friday, November 30. She said the family was having a bonfire in the back yard of their Lyman Street home when Tanner picked up a gas can that was nearby. Flames leaped from the fire to the can and to Tanner. His flaming shirt was ripped off of him, and he was immediately taken by his mother, Donna Thompson, to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. The weather was unsuitable for helicopters so Tanner was then transported by Cambridge Ambulance Service to the Burn Center at Westchester Medical Center.

Village of Hoosick Falls Board Meeting: Dissolution – Town Rejects Police Force

December 14, 2012 By eastwickpress

by Bea Peterson
The Hoosick Falls Village Board meeting lasted all of one half hour. It was a good deal for the dozen or more HFCS students at the meeting who must attend Town and Village meetings as part of their Government class.
Mayor Monahan said the Town Board had declined having a Townwide Police Force. Since cost figures were sketchy he has asked that a more thorough study of the Police Department be made so that they have some good final numbers on the cost to Village and Town.
He said the Dissolution Committee will have to regroup and see where to go from here, look at alternatives and wrap up the study.
