Hoosick Democrats Host Fall Wine And Cheese Party
The Town of Hoosick Democrats will host their annual Fall Wine and Cheese Party this Sunday, October 21, from 4 to 7 pm at The Sand Bar. The public is invited to come and meet the candidates including Democratic candidate for Highway Superintendent Bill Shiland III. Everyone is invited to come and enjoy a light fare of appetizers, cheese, crackers, wine and cold beverages. Tickets are on sale at Thorpe’s Pharmacy from Jim Monahan, or you can call Bob Ryan at 686-4857, Kevin O’Malley, Marie O’Neil at 686-4829, Maggie Casey at 686-7367, Marilyn Douglas at 686-9707 or Bob Melesky at 686-5069. Tickets will also be sold at the door. Tickets cost $10.
Dedication Of The Brigadier General James J. Kenney Memorial Highway
The Rensselaer County Legislature will join with local officials, family, friends and veterans Saturday in unveiling the Brigadier General James J. Kenney Memorial Highway on State Route 7 near the Tomhannock Reservoir.
The ceremony will take place Saturday, October 20, at 11 am at the Tomhannock Reservoir fishing area parking lot, next to Lakeshore Drive.

Hoosick Grange News
Hoosick Grange met on October 10 with its new slate of officers. Master David Cornell conducted the business meeting. After the meeting the Lecturer with the Grangers planned meetings and refreshment committees for the year. Everyone could suggest changes and give their opinion.
The New York State Grange 140th Annual Session will be held in Cortland, NY, on October 19 through 23. Martha Babbitt will be going as Delegate-at-Large. The rolled sugar cookie contest will be held. In 2013, next year, the contest will be Plain Baking Powder Biscuits.

Taconic Valley Youth Basketball Registration Night
Taconic Valley Youth Basketball, sponsored by PVMCC and BCSD Pep Grant, will be holding its 2012-2013 basketball season registration night at the Petersburgh Veteran’s Memorial Community Center on Tuesday, October 30, from 7 to 8:30 pm. There will be a $25 registration fee which will include a t-shirt.
The 2012 – 2013 season will begin Tuesday, November 13, and end on Thursday, February 28. Practice schedules will be available at the time of registration. We are looking forward to another great season!
Dutch Barns At The Poestenkill Historical Society
Ned Pratt will present a illustrated talk on Dutch barns at the next meeting of the Poestenkill Historical Society on Tuesday, October 23. Pratt is a member of The Dutch Barn Preservation Society whose members have been instrumental in preserving and restoring threatened barns.
Like many other symbols of our agricultural past, Dutch barns are rapidly disappearing. Few of these venerable buildings will survive the next twenty years. Built in large numbers between 1630 and 1825, Dutch barns can still be found in rural portions of the Hudson, Mohawk and Schoharie valleys and in northern and central New Jersey.
The Poestenkill Historical Society will meet at 7 pm in the Poestenkill Town Hall on Rt. 351.
Knights Of Columbus Buffet Breakfast
The Knights of Columbus are having a buffet breakfast at the Immaculate Conception Church in Hoosick Falls on Sunday, October 21, from 10 am to noon. The breakfast features homemade waffles, eggs, home fries, sausage, coffee and oj. The price for adults is $6, $3 for children under 12.
Grafton VFD And Ladies Auxiliary Breakfast
The Grafton Volunteer Fire Department along with the Grafton Ladies Auxiliary will be holding an All You Can Eat Buffet Breakfast on Saturday, October 27, from 8 to 11 am at the Grafton VFW – Fire Hall on South Road (County Route 85). Belgian waffles, pancakes, French toast, eggs (made to order), sausage gravy & biscuits, bacon, sausage, home fries, toast, orange juice, coffee and milk are on the menu. The cost is $8 per adult, $4 for kids 12 and under and free for kids five and under.
