Taconic Valley Historical Society will present the DVD “Rutland Remnants 6 North Bennington, VT, to Chatham, NY,” documenting the Corkscrew Subdivision of the Rutland Railroad passing through Petersburgh and Berlin. The meeting will be held Monday evening October 15, at 7:30 pm at the Berlin Methodist Church, South Main Street, Berlin. Meetings are free and open to the public. Please join us. Grafton Historical Society Wine And Cheese Party
“Spirits of Fall,” a wine and cheese sampling festival, will be held on Saturday, October 20, from 4 to 6 pm at the historic Grafton Inn in Grafton.
The event will feature an array of notable New York State wines from the Glenora Winery, international cheeses and a groaning board of hors d’oeuvres. There will also be a large number of door prizes as well as a raffle basket filled with homemade jams, jellies and assorted gourmet goodies.
Tickets cost $20 per person and must be purchased in advance. For tickets or information please call Anne at 279-3051.
The event is sponsored by the Grafton Historical Society.
Proceeds are used to support the programming and other educational activities of the Society.
Taconic Valley American Legion Fundraiser
The Taconic Valley American Legion Auxiliary is sponsoring a “Cheapstakes Extravaganza” on November 3 from 9 am to 1 pm at the Petersburgh Veterans Memorial Community Center. There will be tag sale tables, a Chinese Auction and a food and pie sale. There will also be a “best food” contest which involves free samples of each food and then a vote for the tastiest one. The contest, with a $20 prize, is open to anyone who brings in food to share.

Stephentown Memorial Library Cabaret Benefit – A Great Success
Berkshires-based cabaret performer Lisa Kantor enchanted her audience at the Stephentown Memorial Library benefit “You Read Me Like a Book!” on September 28 at The Theater Barn in New Lebanon. Lisa and her trio shifted moods and styles of love and love-gone-wrong songs for the enjoyment of a full house of Library supporters.
The Friends of the Library report that the evening raised about $7,000 for the Library, thanks to the support of ticket buyers, advertisers and donors. They offer special thanks to Lisa, The Theater Barn, Hudson-Chatham Winery, Danforth Printing, Harry & David and Lindor Truffles by Lindt for their generous donations. Because of enthusiastic community support and the success of the evening, the Friends are looking forward to a repeat performance next fall.
Hoosick Falls Senior Center Defensive Driving Program
There will be an AARP Defensive Driving Program at the Hoosick Falls Senior Center on November 7 from 9 am to 3 pm. The cost for AARP members is $17, $19 for non-members. It is free for veterans. Call the Senior Center to sign up at 686-7561; the seating is limited.
West Hoosick F.D. Pancake Breakfast
The West Hoosick Fire Department announces an “All You Can Eat” breakfast at the firehouse on Sunday, October 21, from 7:30 to 11 am. The menu includes pancakes, French toast, eggs, sausage, bacon, toast, juice, coffee, tea and hot chocolate. This will be our last breakfast for the year, and we would like to thank everyone for their fantastic support this year. • Saturday, October 13 – Treasure Hunt at 1 pm. Learn how to use an orienteering map and compass to track down treasures in the Park. This is a fun family activity – a one mile treasure hunt trek. Space is limited so please pre-register by calling 279-1155. The fee is $2 per person or $5 per family. The group will meet at the amphitheater.

Flying Deer Tracking Club
The newly formed Flying Deer Tracking Club will meet on Saturday, October 20, from 9 am to noon at a location to be announced. The Tracking Club is an opportunity for adults 18 and older to further their nature education and enjoy time in the fields and forests. We hope to offer a similar program for kids and/or families in future. Members will learn to identify animals by their tracks, recognize scat and other signs left by animals, recognize animal gaits and track patterns, follow trails through varying landscapes and uncover mysteries.
