Dyken Pond Survival Skills Workshop

The Magic of Fire Workshop will be held on Sunday, October 14, from 10 am until 3:30 pm. Learn how to start a fire using common available materials such as fungus, bark and an empty bottle. Make your own bow drill set, proving that you can rub two sticks together to get fire. Various ancient techniques will be covered with enough practice time to create competent and skilled fire makers.
This workshop is for older teens and adults, beginners and more experienced alike. The fee is $20, $15 for members. Pre-registration is required .The program is limited to 15 people. Register by contacting Dyken Pond Center at 518-658-2055 or dykenpond@fairpoint.net. Please register early.

Ronald L. Brock

Petersburgh – Ronald L. Brock, 70, of Potter Hill Road, Petersburgh, NY, died on Wednesday, October 10, 2012, at Samaritan Hospital in Troy, NY, after an extended illness.
Born in Petersburgh on February 1, 1942, he was the son of Elizabeth May Wescott Brock of Walloomsac, NY, and the late Lester Elwin Brock, Sr. He was the loving husband of the late Thelma A. Knuetter Brock, who died on June 21, 1997. They were married in Grafton, NY, on March 19, 1965.

Peter has spent his summer making improvements in the fenced plot where smaller parcels of land are offered to anyone who is interested in growing fresh vegetables for the home. For months staff and volunteers of HAYC3 (Hoosick Armory Youth Center Community Coalition) worked to promote and execute the fourth annual Pumpkinpalooza. Events took place in Wood Park and the Town Park all day and festivities concluded with the elegant Harvest Moon Dinner. After all the exhausted hard working crew left the Youth Center, it happened.

Pumpkinpalooza Day In Hoosick Falls

Hoosick Falls was jumping Saturday, September 29. It was Pumpkinpalooza Day! The weather wasn’t perfect, and a misty rain dampened the air at times. Whatever, everyone appeared to have a good time. The events were endless and it was often difficult to decide to watch the ones in Wood Park or the ones in the Town Park. Many folks traveled from one place to the other. If they didn’t want to walk, they could take the tractor drawn hay wagon or the horse drawn wagon. Either one was fun!

Memorial Trees Planted In Echo Park

Doug Goodermote and his sister Elizabeth Reynolds have lived in houses at the end of Echo Park in Berlin for more than 50 years. They have seen many changes in the landscape during that time. Particularly the loss of the maple trees that once lined the length of the street. “There was always big maples here and around,” said Goodermote last week. Hoosick Republicans Nominate Louis Schmigel For Highway Superintendent

The Town of Hoosick Republican Committee held a caucus in September for the purpose of nominating a candidate to run for the unexpired term of Superintendent of Highways. This office became vacant following the retirement of Bill Shiland Jr. in August. Louis Schmigel, a registered Independent, was nominated to run as Superintendent of Highways at the caucus.

Voter Registration Hours Are Extended In Rensselaer County

The Rensselaer County Board of Elections and town halls in Rensselaer County will be open for extended hours in order to accommodate voters needing to register for the upcoming general election on Tuesday, November 6.
Commissioners of Elections Larry Bugbee, Republican, and Edward McDonough, Democrat, announced today that the Board of Elections, along with town halls in Rensselaer County will be open from 5:30 pm until 9 pm on Thursday, October 4, and from 2 pm until 9 pm on Saturday, October 13.

Apartment Approved In Hoosick Falls Commercial Zone

A special joint meeting of the Hoosick Falls Planning Board and the Hoosick Falls ZBA was held on Thursday, September 27. At the meeting both Boards agreed to allow a variance to Richard Ferrannini for his property at 204 Main Street from commercial to commercial/residential.
