To the Editor;
I am writing in reference to a financial issue we are facing in the Town of New Lebanon. Our local cemetery is presently facing bankruptcy, and, should this happen, it will fall to the Town to take care of it. State Law prevents Town owned cemeteries from ever selling plots again, which means the cemetery would no longer be self-sustaining. We have also struggled to repair and add-on to our Town Hall, upgrade our park, etc. Yet, our local library is receiving an annual grant from the Town in excess of $135,000.

Berlin F.D. Fresh Maine Lobster Dinner
A fresh Maine lobster dinner will be served at the Berlin Firehouse on Saturday, October 13, from 6 to 8 pm. Take-outs are available from 4:30 to 5:30 pm. There are advance ticket sales only, and the reservation deadline is Tuesday, October 9.
You may reserve single lobster dinners for $19 or twin lobster dinners for $27. The dinners include lobster(s) with melted butter, baked potato, salad, roll, ice cream and beverage.

The Invisible Road To Freedom At The Stephentown Historical Society
Paul and Mary Liz Stewart of The Underground Railroad History Project of the Capital Region will present “The Invisible Road To Freedom” at the Stephentown Historical Society meeting on Monday, October 1, at 7:30 pm. The meeting will be at the Stephentown Heritage Center on Garfield Road, Stephentown. It is free and open to the public. The building is handicapped accessible. Berlin Youth 2 Youth Teen Event
Youth 2 Youth Berlin will be hosting its kickoff event for the school year on Friday, October 5, at the Berlin Middle School/High School from 7 to 10 pm. Berlin Teens have planned a night of games, music, dancing, Wii and other activities (including Ride that Pony!).
Tickets cost $3 in advance and $5 at the door and include snacks and beverage. Tickets can be pre-ordered through the Y2Y Berlin Group, Biffy Cahill, the Main Office at the Berlin Middle/High School and the Stephentown Memorial Library.
America Red Cross Blood Drive In Hoosick October 8
The Town of Hoosick Republican Party will sponsor its annual American Red Cross Blood Drive on Monday, October 8, at the North Hoosick Fire House from 1 to 6 pm.

New Lebanon Library Book And Bake Sale
The New Lebanon Library will hold its annual used book and bake sale on Saturday, September 29, from 10 am to 4 pm and Sunday, September 30, from 10 am to 2 pm at the Midtown Mall, Routes 20 and 22 in the center of New Lebanon. There will be a special preview sale on Friday evening, September 28, from 4 to 6 pm and Saturday morning, September 29, from 8 to 10 am. Admission to the preview sale is $5 per person.

New Room For Book Sales At The Cheney Library
Cheney Library staff and volunteers have been working hard to create a room to be used just for the monthly book sales. The first book sale in the new room will be on October 6. There is a lot more room to browse in, so there are a lot more books on the shelves. Please be sure to join us as we make more use of Cheney Library. The book sale is held each month on Saturday from 8 am to 1 pm. The Cheney Library is open Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 1 to 8 pm, Tuesday from 10 am to 5 pm, Friday from 11 am to 4 pm and Saturday from 8 am to 1 pm.
The Stephentown Food Pantry Is Busy
The Stephentown Food Pantry volunteers have been kept very busy lately. So far this month the pantry has provided food for 123 people, with as many as fourteen families being helped on a Saturday morning. The Stephentown Food Pantry offers short term assistance to residents of Stephentown and Hancock, MA. The pantry is open every Saturday morning, weather permitting, from 9 to 11 am at the Stephentown Federated Church, Garfield Road (County Route 26). Appointments are not needed. AARP Defensive Driving Course In Grafton

Tsatsawassa Fire Company Breakfast
The Tsatsawassa Protective Fire Company will resume its monthly breakfast on Sunday, October 21, with servings from 8 to 11:30 am. Breakfast consists of your choice of French toast or pancakes, as well as bacon or sausage, toast, orange juice, applesauce, beverages and eggs prepared to your specifications for a cost of $6 with children under five served free.
