Representatives of Columbia County’s six public high schools will compete for the title of 2012 Schoolgirl Queen on Friday, August 31, in one of the Columbia County Fair’s most popular and enduring traditions.
At 6:30 pm the gowned contestants will arrive at the stage in front of the grandstand in vintage convertibles and be introduced by emcees Meg Dooley and Cathie Lee Visscher.
Judging is based on personality, poise and appearance. The winner will be crowned by last year’s Queen, Sarah Elise Risko from New Lebanon High School, and receive a $500 prize.

Ninth Annual Ryan And Courtney Motorcycle Run
The Ninth Annual Memorial Ryan Gardner/Courtney Carelli Motorcycle Run will be held in Stephentown on Saturday, August 4. Once again, motorcyclists and spectators will gather at Gardner’s Ice Cream and Coffee Shoppe on Route 22 at 9 am for the annual benefit that will depart at 11 am for a 90 mile ride through parts of New York, Vermont and Massachusetts. The motorcyclists from around the region will return to the Fire Hall on Grange Hall Road for a day of food, games, music, raffles and entertainment from 1 pm on.

Summertime and the living is easy… unless you are a parent and now have to find day care options for your children. I peruse my choices. I could just not show up at work until September and do lots of groovy things and really bond with my kids. Sounds like fun, but… I may not be welcome back at that stinky old job in September.
