Child Left On School Bus

A three year old child supposed to be attending Capital District Beginnings preschool in Berlin on Monday, April 16, was instead left on a bus alone for three hours. New York State Police reported that the bus, owned by Northland Transportation, dropped several students off at Capital District Beginnings in Berlin at approximately 9 am. Petersburgh Town Board Action – April 2012

Petersburgh Supervisor Siegfried Krahforst said he and Town Highway Superintendent Ray Harrison met with the County Highway Engineer about the project to replace the bridge that carries Broken Wheel Road over the Little Hoosic River. Krahforst said that to keep the project on track it has to be in the works in 2013 and start construction in 2014. If the Town does not keep to this schedule, it will lose the funding. Hoosick Falls Taxes Drop 3.15%

The Hoosick Falls Village Organizational meeting on Tuesday, April 17, was followed by a Public Hearing on the 2012-2013 budget. The General Fund portion of the budget included a 3.15 percent reduction in Village taxes. “We’ve done a good job cutting costs,” said Mayor Matt Monahan. Stephentown Town Board Action – Looking For A New Telephone System

The Stephentown Town Board, fed up with a malfunctioning telephone system, passed a resolution on Monday to request proposals for replacing the system. Town Supervisor Larry Eckhardt went through a long-standing list of complaints from Town officials that included constant unexplained ringing necessitating a reset of the system and loss of data, disappearing or irretrievable voice mails and breaches of privacy when voice mails are left. Grafton Planning Board Action – Do Good Fences Make Good Neighbors?

When the great American poet Robert Frost wrote that “Good fences make good neighbors” he was undoubtedly not thinking of a fence made of salvaged blue garage doors like the fence erected by Rich Lundy on the property line with his neighbor Doug Pratt. Pratt owns the property that abuts the east side of the land on which Lundy hopes to establish a horse stable and trail riding business. He came to the public hearing on the Lundy site plan review that was held before the regular Grafton Planning Board meeting on Monday, April 16, and had his say.

Stephentown ZBA Approves Scope Of Motocross Park EIS

At a special meeting on April 17 the Stephentown Zoning Board of Appeals approved the final Scope for an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to be prepared in the SEQR process for Howard Commander’s proposed Motocross park. Commander’s team, led by his engineer Patrick Prendergast, agreed to put together a Draft EIS. It will not be ready for the next ZBA meeting, which would normally be held on May 3, but Prendergast said he would give a progress report sometime next month. Hoosick Falls Is Second In County Annual Water Taste Test Contest
County Executive Kathleen Jimino announced the results of the County’s annual Water Taste Test Contest held on April 17 at the University of Albany’s School of Public Health. The contest allows public water suppliers from throughout the County to compete against one another to see which one the residents and visitors who sampled the water would select as the best tasting.

Hoosick Planning Board Action – April 2012

Judy Kelly appeared before the Board with a completed boundary line adjustment application for property on Spicer Hill and Yager Roads. The Board approved the adjustment.
Joseph Welsh appeared before the Board to confirm that property he had recently purchased on Young Road had been subdivided at one point. Records confirmed the property had been subdivided in 1997.
