Fire At Oak-Mitsui

According to Hoosick Falls Fire Chief Robert Bornt, the Hoosick Falls and North Hoosick Fire Departments were the first on the scene of a fire at the back of the Oak-Mitsui, Inc. building on First Street on Thursday, January 12, at approximately 10 am. Former BCS Board Member Urges Petersburgh Secession From School District

At this month’s Petersburgh Town Board meeting the Town Board heard a presentation from Kurt Klein asking the Petersburgh Town Board to consider seceding from the Berlin Central School District and affiliating with another District.

Massive Leak At Former WCW

Hoosick Falls Water Department Supervisor Jim Hurlburt was concerned late Monday afternoon, January 16, when water in the Rensselaer Street tank began dropping rapidly. “It was about 5:30, and water usage usually increases about that time,” he said. “But this was far too much water. It was about 800 gallons a minute.” Hurlburt dreaded having to drive around the Village looking for the leak. “I was relieved when I got the call from the County,” he said.

Stephentown ZBA Finds Significant Environmental Impact In Motocross Park Project

The Stephentown Zoning Board of Appeals has determined that there would be significant environmental impact in allowing Howard Commander’s proposed Motocross park to be placed in a residential zone off of Webster Hill Road. At a special meeting on Tuesday, the ZBA, following the SEQR (State Environmental Quality Review) process went step by step through Part 2 of the Environmental Assessment Form. Following recommendations from engineering consultant Michael Bianchino of Clough Harbour Associates, the Board determined that there would be significant and important impact in noise and on the growth and character of the neighborhood. VPS Control Systems Achieves SHARP Status

A ceremony was held at VPS Control Systems, Inc., this week to acknowledge the company’s achievement of SHARP status. The Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) is an OSHA program that recognizes small businesses which operate an exemplary safety and health management system.

Village of Hoosick Falls Board Meeting – 50 Dwellings Lack Water Meters

At the Hoosick Falls Village Board meeting held on Tuesday, January 17, Mayor Matt Monahan said there are still 50 dwellings in the Village that do not have water meters. He said the owners will be fined $150 every three months until a meter is installed. The Village is also looking into having the water to those buildings shut off within 90 days of notification.

Stephentown Town Board Action – Finances In Pretty Good Shape

At the first regular meeting of the year for the Stephentown Town Board, Town Supervisor Larry Eckhardt reported that the Town’s finances appear to be in pretty good shape. Despite keeping the amount appropriated from previous years’ unexpended fund balance down to only $64,000, the Town still managed to end the year 2011 with a small surplus in both the General and the Highway Accounts. RFP For Hoosick Town Hall Engineering Services Is Approved

The Hoosick Town Board held a special meeting on Wednesday, January 18, at 6 pm to review and approve the Request for Proposals (RFP) for Architectural and Engineering Services for Design and Construction Management for the Hoosick Falls Armory and For Construction Of A New Building To Be Used As A Town Hall. Siena College Athletes Adopt St. Mary’s Academy

Men and women basketball players from Siena College paid a special visit to St. Mary’s Academy in Hoosick Falls as part of their annual Adopt-a-School program. The athletes held skills clinics for the students, demonstrated their own skills and even took time out for a competitive game of Pictionary. Letter To The Editor – Healing

To the Editor:
As I have talked with folks about this Saturday’s American Legion Auxiliary’s fund-raiser I have heard some perplexing questions. I do not profess to having all the answers, but I do know why I am attending. I want to do what I can to honor our veterans. My first husband was a Vietnam combat veteran.
