The Great Annual Smoothie Contest

The Rensselaer County Dairy Princess Marilyn Lamb held the annual smoothie making contest at the Schaghticoke Fair on Saturday September 3. I would like to thank all the guys from the highway deparment for a great job they have been doing on fixing our road. Our road was one of the hardest hit from Hurrican Irene. They have done a really great job in getting things back to normal.

Berlin Historic Walking Tour

Berlin’s Main Street is a treasure of architectural styles and historic homes and businesses.  Join us for a historic walking tour of Berlin’s Main Street between Elm Street and Park Avenue on Saturday, September 24.  This event is sponsored by Corner Creations, on the corner of Main and Elm Streets, where we will meet between the hours of 1 and 4 pm.  Walks will begin every 20 minutes with a tour guide.  A booklet of the  buildings and history of each will be given to each person attending.   Join us on the 24th! ( In the event that it is raining, the tour will be held on Saturday, October 1.)

Petersburgh Annual Turkey Shoot

It’s that time of the year again!  Our turkey shoots will be held on September 25 and October 2 (rain date October 9).  Bring the whole family so they can cheer you on while you compete to win a turkey.  You all can enjoy hot dogs, hamburgers, sausage and peppers, homemade pies, baked beans, popcorn – just to name a few.  We will also have our summer-long 50/50, plus other raffles.  See you at 12 on the 25th and 2nd – Scriven Road.  Shotguns and rifles only – no 10 gauge shot guns.

Berlin Area Girl Scouts Seek Members

Girl Scouts Troop #1070 (4th graders) is looking for new members to join the Troop. Meetings are held twice monthly after school (in the Berlin/Petersburgh area)

Grafton Historical Society Presents Toys In America

The Grafton Historical Society’s September meeting will be held at the Grafton Town Hall on September 21 at 7 pm.
Our speaker will be Marilyn Sassi.  Marilyn received her BA from Russell Sage College with a major in Art History. Graduate Program at SUNY Albany in Museum Studies.  She has forty years of experience in the field of material culture has included the position of curator for several local museums and working at auction galleries, estate sales and as a local correspondent for a newspaper covering antiques.

Stephentown Texas Hold’em Tournament

The Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department will hold a Texas Hold’em Tournament on Saturday September 24 in the Stephentown Fire Hall, located on Grange Hall Road in Stephentown. The doors will open at 5 pm and close at 6 pm. Play begins at 6:15 sharp.

Knitting For Novices In Grafton

Taconic Valley Historical Society

Mrs. Kathryn Sheehan, Registrar and Rensselaer County Historian, will be the guest speaker at the September 19th meeting of the Taconic Valley Historical Society.  Kathy will present an evening of potpourri, interesting collections and stories that have come into the Rensselaer County Historical Society over the last few months.  Meetings are held at the United Methodist Church, South Main Street, Berlin, the third Monday of each month at 7:30 pm.  The programs are free and open to the public.
