Grafton – Betty J. Adams, 80, died on Thursday morning, August 18, 2011, at the Hoosick Falls Health Center in Hoosick Falls, NY.
Born in Petersburgh, NY, on March 22, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Leslie and Lena Lackey Miller. She was the wife of the late Walter Adams, who died in 1986, and the late Leon “Red” Schnoop, who died in 1954.

Pit Bulls Rampage In Berlin

Berlin Dog Control Officer Doug Goodermote had a disturbing, grisly tale to tell at Thursday’s Town Board meeting about two separate pit bull attacks that occurred in Town during the last month. One involved a two year old girl who was attacked in her home by the family pet. The other involved a pair of pit bulls that killed one calf and wounded two others at the Mapledale Farm on Greene’s Brook Road.

The Battle Of Bennington Remembered

On Tuesday evening, August 16, a small group gathered at the top of the Bennington Battlefield in Walloomsac to commemorate the 234th anniversary of that revolutionary war battle fought so many years ago on those very grounds. After days of rain, the sky was clear, and the site was sunny, with deep shadows as the sun moved toward setting.

WCW Is Moving To Vermont

WCW Chairman John Wilkinson confirmed this week that the mattress manufacturing company will be moving to Manchester, VT. He expects the Mechanic Street portion of the business to leave as quickly as possible, while the transfer from the Route 22 buildings will be more leisurely. He said the entire move should be completed within the next three months.

Stephentown Town Board Action – Town Clerk Gallup Resigns

Patty Gallup, nearing 16 years as Stephentown’s Town Clerk, has for personal reasons submitted her resignation to be effective the end of this month. The Town Board formally accepted her resignation with regret at the Monday evening Board meeting. A reception with cake and flowers and refreshments was held after the meeting to honor her for her years of service.

Petersburgh Town Board Action – Reval Discussed

Petersburgh Assessor Craig Surprise talked to the Board about doing a Revaluation of Real Estate in the Town.  He said the Board passed a resolution last year to do a Revaluation in 2012 and right after it passed the State of New York “put everything on hold.” Now the State has put forward a new set of regulations on the subject. Surprise said a reval would cost $20,000 to $25,000 if he did it himself with hired help. He said if you hire an outside firm to do the reval, it might cost $100,000.  The State will pay $5 per parcel, which will cut the cost to the Town by a little under $5,000.

Stephentown Sex Offender Arrested

Rensselaer County Sheriff, Jack Mahar, today announced the Sheriff’s Office has arrested four sex offenders in the past four weeks including the re-arrest of a violent, Level 3, repeat sex offender who abducted and sexually abused a 13-year-old girl in 1976.
Albert L. Davenport, 60, was arrested last week for possession of pornographic photographs on his laptop computer. The photos were of children whose ages ranged from 3 to 13 years old.  Davenport was supposed to be living in Stephentown on Route 43. The Sheriff said he changed his address and failed to report it.

Hoosick Planning Board Action – Animal Lodging Facility Approved

At its regular meeting on Monday, August 15, the Hoosick Planning Board read the Zoning Board of Appeals review of the request by Tracy Muscatello to open an Animal Lodging Facility on a 4.7 acre site she is leasing from Verizon.
