On Sunday, May 8, Rev. Dr. Thomas Azar delivered his last message as the interim pastor at the First Baptist Church of Hoosick Falls. Feeling the need to be more involved with his mother’s health care and other family obligations he decided it was time to leave Hoosick Falls. The First Baptist Church is pleased to announce that the Rev. Paul Smith and his wife Trish have arrived to take over the ministerial leadership with his first Sunday having been May 15.

HACA Volunteers Recognized

At the Hoosick Area Church Association Annual Volunteer and Community Partners Appreciation Brunch on Saturday, May 21, Norma Brenenstuhl was honored as the Volunteer of the Year. Fallon Parker received the Helping Hands Award. The Partnership Award was presented to Pat Hayes for St. Mary’s Academy. This year SMA hosted the very successful Taste of Hoosick event. The Community Award was presented to Hoosick Falls Central School for supporting HACA’s various projects.

The most dramatic event at the Berlin Town Board meeting on May 12 was the resolution presented by Board Member Sheila Hewitt to spend $160,000 out of the Capital Reserve Fund to turn the Watipi Building into Town offices. Tyler Sawyer Appointed Grafton Supervisor

The Grafton Town Board voted 3-1 to appoint Tyler Sawyer as Grafton Supervisor for the rest of this year. The Board began its meeting with an executive session, and when they emerged Mike Crandall nominated Sawyer. He, Ed Fredricks and Marie Claus voted in favor, and Barbara Messenger voted against the appointment.

Dollar General Store Coming To Hoosick

Attorney Tim O’Brien, representing Bohler Engineering, appeared before the Hoosick Planning Board at its regular meeting on Monday, May 16, for an informal discussion regarding a Dollar General store. He showed the Board a sketch plan of the lot where the building will be constructed. The store will be located on Route 22 across from True Value. More Than 150 Volunteers Help With Hoosick Falls Cleanup
The first Village Clean-up and Community Block Party was a great success according to the Hoosick Area Youth Center & Community Coalition (HAYC3), organizers of the event. Petersburgh Town Board Action – Closing Town Park Temporarily

The Town’s insurer visited the Town Park recently and asked the Town to immediately fix several things there. The circular plastic slide is broken and needs to be removed; S links on the swings are worn and need to be replaced; sawdust needs to be put down under the swings, and the seats are missing from some of the benches, so the remaining posts need to be removed.

Dennis Flynn To Speak At Hoosick Falls Memorial Day Event
Dennis Flynn of Stage Road, Buskirk, will be guest speaker at the Hoosick Falls Memorial Day Celebration, following the annual parade on May 30. Flynn served as a staff sergeant in the US Army, Army Reserve and the Army National Guard.
