St. Mary’s Golf Scramble and Alumni Banquet Is SMA’s first major fundraiser of the 2013-2014 School Year.
Don’t miss St. Mary’s Academy Alumni Weekend on August 2 and 3. The Golf Scramble will take place on Friday, August 2, at the Hoosick Falls Country Club, and the Alumni Banquet will be at the school on Saturday, August 3. Alumni Weekend is an exciting event for all members of the SMA family, former and current SMA parents and students, as well as community members.
At the Scramble, you can play golf and/or sponsor a hole. Spectators are welcome at the Club to cheer on the players and enjoy the festive atmosphere. The Scramble never fails to delight and entertain the whole family, golfers and non-golfers alike. Tee-off times are 8 am and 1 pm. The registration fee of $70 includes golf, lunch and Babson’s light fare supper.
As always, the Alumni Banquet is looking like it will be an enjoyable evening. The event will be held at the school, and there will be a catered dinner buffet by Scott Areson. Music for listening and dancing will follow the festivities. Come prepared to have a wonderful time with “old” friends! Cocktail Hour is 6 to 7 pm, dinner begins at 7.

Congratulations to the Hoosick Falls Class of 2013

June 28, 2013 By eastwickpress

by Bea Peterson
Perfect weather highlighted the three days of HFCS graduation activities, followed by a perfect weather weekend for parties. Considerable rain earlier, however, soddened the athletic field where graduation guests ordinarily park. Many of them had the unique opportunity of parking at Tops Family Market and arriving at graduation ceremonies in a school bus. Those who needed assistance were then driven by golf cart to their seats.

June 21, 2013 By eastwickpress

by Alex Brooks
The resignation of Brett Lamy, Assistant Principal of the High School and Athletic Director, was accepted by the Hoosick Falls School Board at its meeting on June 13. At the same meeting both of the half time positions that he held this year were abolished. A decision to eliminate the Assistant Principal position was made as a budget cutting measure last winter when the budget was being constructed.

BCS Board Meeting – Fare Thee Well

June 21, 2013 By eastwickpress

by Thaddeus Flint
Tuesday was the final monthly meeting for three of the Berlin School District’s Board members, and, true to form, it began on a sour note when John Nash, Bev Stewart and Alan Webster Jr. failed to show up even though they were to be recognized for their service.

Letter To The Editor – Disturbed By The Warrantless Search Of Our Children

June 21, 2013 By eastwickpress

To the Editor:
I read with dismay the article in the June 7 Eastwick Press regarding the “Drug Sniff at BCS.”
It is refreshing to know that no drugs were found. However, it is equally disturbing to know our school administrators and County Sheriff’s Department felt it would be acceptable to conduct a warrantless search/sniff of our children’s belongings. If there was no explicit reason to suspect these children, there should have been no reason to conduct the search.
I wonder how the teachers, custodians, assistants, administrators would have felt if their pocketbooks, wallet, pant pockets, backpacks were sniffed as they entered the school or got out of their cars. Would the Sheriff’s Department have felt they could ask the adults to line up and place their belongings on the ground? Would the adults have complied?
This was not a drill. It was an assault on our children’s civil rights and privacy. I believe the BCS School Administration owes an apology to the children and to their parents.
Sincerely,
Anita Henry
