Molly Durnin To Perform In FCCLA Talent Show
Talent in Times Square is the theme for the 20th annual FCCLA Talent Show at Berlin High School. Performances this year will include recording artist and Berlin Alumna Molly Durnin, Alumnus Nuffer Muller demonstrating techno-computer music, student performers on piano and guitar including a local teen band and much more.
The show begins at 7 pm and proceeds send students to the NY State FCCLA Leadership Conference. Show time is 7 pm Saturday, March 3, at the Berlin High School.
Refreshments will be on sale. Admission is $5. The snow date is Sunday, March 4, at 3 pm.
Berlin And New Lebanon Alumni Night
On Friday night, March 2, New Lebanon and Berlin alumni will face off in games of volleyball and basketball. Volleyball will start at 5:30 pm to be followed by basketball at 7. Admission is $1 for students and senior citizens and $2 for adults. There will be a concession stand run by students from both schools.
Proceeds will benefit the Berlin class of 2012 and the New Lebanon class of 2013.

The HFCS girls basketball team’s Cinderella run in the sectionals came to a screeching halt in the second half of the semi-final game against Hoosic Valley on Tuesday evening, February 28. HFCS To Appeal Disqualification Of Bowling Team From State Tournament

On Friday, February 17, the Times Union reported that the Hoosick Falls Bowling Team had been stripped of its Section II Class C-D Bowling Championship and its place in the March State Tournament because it did not complete the paperwork required when seventh or eighth grade students compete in a varsity sport.

Demolition Of The Union Free School Building Begins; Bell Tower To Be Saved

With the word out that the historic Union Free School building in New Lebanon is to be demolished this week, many from the Town and the surrounding areas have been coming by to take one last look at the structure which has been a part of the Town’s personality for 99 years.

HFCS Presents First Draft Of Budget

The first draft of the Hoosick Falls School District budget was presented last week. Superintendent Ken Facin called the situation “challenging,” but he set a goal of developing a budget that does not exceed a 2% tax levy increase, with minimal impact on staffing and student programming. He said, “We have some work to do, but we will find a way to reach our goal.”
The budget as presented showed a tax levy increase of 8.19%, but no one expects it to stay that high. The Board’s intention is to work that down to 2% or less before it adopts a budget on April 19.

Lady Panthers Stun Witches In Sectional Upset

After they finished the regular season in sixth place in the Wasaren League with a 7-11 record and seeded 13th in the Class C Sectionals, most people may have figured the Hoosick Falls Lady Panthers would close out their season on Tuesday night. And playing at the fourth seeded Greenwich Witches, who already handed them two 20 point losses, did not encourage most to believe the upset could happen. The Lady Panthers apparently were too busy preparing to get that memo though, stunning the Witches on their home court and pulling off the 44-42 first round victory.

Panthers Pound Cambridge For Third Time

The third time wasn’t the charm for the Cambridge boys basketball team. The third time playing Hoosick Falls turned out to be pretty much just like the last two times, lopsided Panther victories. The only difference was that this one ended the Indians’ season while propelling Hoosick Falls into the Class C Quarterfinals.

HFCS Bowling Team To Represent Section II In State Finals
On Friday, February 10, the Hoosick Falls bowling team successfully defended its Section II C-D title with a great win at Boulevard Lanes in Schenectady. They won the title in 2007, 2009, 2011, 2012 and placed second in 2008 and 2010. They finished with a six-game total of 6,060 pins. Hoosick Falls beat the Class “A” team on Monday and the Class “B” team on Tuesday and now will represent Section II in the State Bowling Tournament on March 3 in Binghamton.
