The Hoosac School’s boys basketball team defeated the MacDuffie School of Granby, MA, last Sunday, March 4, in the New England Prep School Athletic Council Championship game by a score of 64-57.
Hoosac, seeded third in the eight team tournament, breezed by Chase Collegiate of Waterbury, CT, in the quarterfinals on Thursday, 80-53, and fought off the second seeded Bancroft School of Worcester, MA, in the semifinal on Friday, 57-47, to reach Sunday’s final against the #1 seed, and undefeated in Class D, MacDuffie School.

HFCS To Present Into The Woods

The cast and crew of the Hoosick Falls Central School Drama Club have been working since January on their spring musical presentation, Into the Woods. Director Rob Allen said, “It’s a brilliantly written show, both very funny and also very touching. It’s an incredibly deep show, full of very thought provoking symbolism and life lessons that connect to people at any age.”

FCCLA Upcoming Events
The Berlin Central School chapter of the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is entering its busy time of the year. While this group does many things throughout the school year, it is currently getting ready to attend a State leadership conference. In order to attend FCCLA will be holding some fund-raisers to help cover the cost of attending.

Berlin Class Of 2012 Second Pizza Night
Next Friday, March 16, the class of 2012 is holding its second Pizza Night at the high school from 4 to 7 pm. Cheese pizzas cost $8 each and toppings cost $1 each. Toppings include pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, black olives, green peppers, onions, ham, pineapple and jalapenos. White pizza with broccoli costs $8. BES PTO Pancake Breakfast Fund-Raiser
The Berlin Elementary PTO will be sponsoring a pancake breakfast on March 18 from 8 to 11 am at the Berlin Elementary School. The cost is $6 for adults, $5 for Senior Citizens, $4 for children 5 to 10 and free for those under 5. There will also be a children’s coffee can auction, local girl scouts selling cookies and cub scout pack 911 selling candy bars.
Young To BCSD: Get Ready To Pay More Taxes

Taxpayers in the Berlin Central School District might want to get ready to pay more taxes next year. Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Stephen Young, pointed out at Tuesday’s School Board meeting that the District had not seen an increase in the tax levy for three years. “I don’t think we can hold that number,” said Young. “We have to start looking at putting more money into the Budget.”

Panther Wrestlers On The Podium At Wrestling States

For the second year in a row Brad Burns and Luis Weierbach highlighted their wrestling seasons with hard earned trips to the New York State Wrestling Championships at the Times Union Center in Albany this past weekend. After neither of them placed last year, the goal this year was to end the weekend on the podium.

Panthers Fight Off Upset Bid By Rensselaer

While Hoosick Falls was talking about upsets following the 13th seeded girls basketball team’s back to back upsets in their sectional tournament, the boys team had to work especially hard to avoid becoming a victim of the upset as well. The Panthers played a pesky Rensselaer team, seeded 9th, at Hudson Valley Community College on Saturday afternoon.

Panthers Headed To Class C Final

The Hoosick Falls boys basketball team took one step closer to a Class C Championship on Tuesday night, beating 4th seeded Lake George 55-41 in their sectional semi-final game at the Glens Falls Civic Center. The win sets up a title game clash with 3rd seed Mechanicville, who knocked off the 2nd seed, Greenwich, on Tuesday as well.
