Perhaps it wasn’t Berlin’s best winter sports season, but the coaches at the Awards Night on March 8 pointed out some bright spots and a lot of effort and grit on the part of their student athletes. Two teams participated in post season Sectional play – the boys Varsity Volleyball team and the combined New Lebanon-Berlin Swim Team.

HFCS PTA Meeting
The next business meeting of the HFCS PTA will take place on Wednesday, March 21, in the Elementary School Library beginning at 6:30 pm. Childcare will be provided for ages pre-k on up by making arrangements in advance with Heather St. Hilaire at 518-686-7649.
As always, members and non-members are encouraged to join meetings to find out what the PTA is doing for our children and to share ideas for special programs and events to benefit the children and families of our School District.

Big Whoop About Zip
The students of the High School Drama Club at BCS will present “Big Whoop About Zip” – a 21st century adaptation of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing on Friday and Saturday, March 16 and 17, at 7 pm in the Berlin High School.
“Big Whoop About Zip” features current issues, characters and themes – including hip hop, drug prevention, soccer and even President Bush. The play includes a cast and crew of 20 students from Berlin High School and is directed by Dianne Mosher. Caitlin Hungerford and Philip Bruns play the leads as Beatrice and Ben.

Basket Bingo At HFCS
A Basket Bingo fund raiser for the Class of 2014 will be held at the HFCS high school Cafeteria on Thursday, March 29. Doors open at 6 pm, games begin at 6:30. Admission is $10 and includes all 18 games.
SMA Basketball Tournament
St. Mary’s Academy in Hoosick Falls will be holding a basketball tournament this weekend for fifth and sixth and seventh and eighth grade teams, both boys and girls. The teams consist of Hoosick Falls, Bennington, Cambridge and Hoosic Valley players. The games will be held Friday, March 16, from 4 to 7 pm, Saturday from 8 am to 7 pm and Sunday, March 18, from 10 am to 6 pm.
Lack Of Trophy Doesn’t Diminish HFCS Bowlers’ Accomplishment

“Plaques or trophies don’t really matter; we know what we accomplished,” said HFCS Bowling Coach Bob Lang. Of course they matter, but he is also right. He and the team know what they accomplished. What the team did this season was win the Class C-D Division Bowling Championship for the fourth time in six years. As a matter of fact, in the Sectionals they bowled the highest score of all the Section II teams and earned the right to represent Section II in the State finals. It would have been the first time a Class C bowling team had ever competed in States.

Acceptance Of Non-Resident Students Approved By HFCS Board

At its meeting on Thursday, February 16, the Hoosick Falls Central School District Board gave unanimous final approval to a policy which allows the District to accept non-resident students on a tuition basis when it has the capacity in its existing programs to do so. Any requests from the parents of non-resident students under this policy will be handled on a case by case basis.

Panthers Fall In Heartbreaking One Point Class C Final

It was 11½ weeks ago, or 81 days to be exact, before the Class C Sectional game on Saturday, March 3, that the Hoosick Falls boys basketball team lost to Greenwich in just their second league game of the season. Losing was not something this Panther team liked though, so off they went on a 17 game winning streak, bringing them to this championship game.
