BCS Board Fails To Authorize Capital Project Financing

Although Berlin School District taxpayers voted in December to approve floating a bond of $5 million to fix up school buildings, when it came time for the School Board to actually authorize the financing, the votes were lacking. At their meeting on Tuesday the School Board voted 4-3 to authorize the bonding, but by State law a 2/3rds majority is required for such an authorization, so the resolution did not pass. HFCS Gets Mystery Money

Hoosick Falls School Superintendent Ken Facin said at last week’s School Board meeting that he had received notice from the State Education Department Division of the Budget that the Hoosick Falls District will be receiving an additional $30,000 in “general operating support.”

Into The Woods This Weekend At HFCS

Stephen Sondheim’s Tony Award winning fairy tale classic Into the Woods will be performed this weekend by the Hoosick Falls Central School’s Drama Club. The three performances are Friday and Saturday, March 23 and 24, at 7 pm and Sunday, March 25, at 2 pm. The BCS Family Comes Together For Lisa Hendricks
Friends, family, classmates, teachers, former teachers and community members are coming together to help Lisa Minkler Hendricks (BCS 2000) and her family. Lisa is undergoing cancer treatment at Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in NYC. Being associated with Berlin Central is like being in a big family. Third HFCS Outdoor Expo

The nice thing about the Hoosick Falls Central School Outdoor Expo is that it was strictly educational and informational. No gimmicks, nothing to buy. NYS DEC personnel had information on wildlife game laws, regulations and enforcement. Trout Unlimited had demonstrations on fly tying and fly fishing, and there was a 4-H Shooting Sports exhibit on gun safety. That was just for starters.

Panther Hoopsters Named To WASAREN League All Star Teams

The WASAREN League coaches recently chose their All Star teams for both the boys and girls. For the boys, Hoosick Falls senior guard Alex Lilac was named as the league’s Most Valuable Player. He was joined on the first team by Tanner Williams. Matt Gormley, Ryan Hyde and Randy Tutunjian earned honorable mention nods for the Panthers.
Hoosick Falls finished the season 20-2, losing to Mechanicville in the sectional final.
On the girls side, Hoosick Falls’ Frankie Pearson earned a second team nod, while teammate Carsen Williams was an honorable mention.
Wolfrum At The NYS Bowling Championships

On Sunday, March 4, Joe Wolfrum from the Hoosick Falls Central School Bowling Team competed at the New York State Bowling Championships held at Waverly Bowling Center. This was his third appearance on the Section II Section Team in the last four years. He was the most experienced member of the team which included the highest six bowlers from Section II that did not compete on the state team. Wolfrum qualified with the highest 6-game total at Sectionals with a great total of 1,346 pins.
