HFCS Christian Action Award

Applications are available through Hoosick Falls Central School guidance and local churches for the 2012 Christian Action Award. This award is given to a graduating senior of HFCS who displays outstanding Christian leadership, community involvement and Christian values. The award is given at Baccalaureate.
This year’s service will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church on June 20. 2012 at 7 pm.

BCS Still At An Impasse In Third Vote On Bond Financing

For the third week in a row the Berlin Central School Board meeting opened with a vote on the authorization of a $5.1 million bond for the Capital Project.
Once again School Superintendent Dr. Stephen Young reminded the Board that this project is “for the benefit of the student.” The buildings, especially the elementary school, are in need of urgent repairs to bring them up to State mandated standards. “It is the students who will suffer further without these repairs,” added Young.

HFCS Nears Final Budget With Tax Levy Increase At 2%

The Hoosick Falls School District’s budget for next year is getting near its final form now that the State Budget has been passed. The District learned this week that it will get $133,000 more in State aid than had been expected before, bringing the total increase in State aid for operating expenses to just under $350,000, which is an increase of almost 4.5% over the current year.

Panther Baseball Loses To Greenwich

Neither cold nor wind nor rain can stop an early spring baseball game. That was obvious on Wednesday, April 4, when Hoosick Falls played Greenwich at home. Young Shocked By BCS Bond Impasse

At last week’s Berlin School Board meeting, the Board failed to vote to authorize a bond of $5.1 million for the renovation of its school buildings and for bringing the Berlin School District closer to School Superintendant Dr. Stephen Young’s vision of a 21st century school district. Board President Gina Goodermote and Board Member Jim Willis had put together a plan to use $5.1 million in State aid and $1.75 million of the District’s Capital Reserve fund for this purpose.

Schaghticoke Fair Scholarships – $1,000 Scholarships To Be Awarded

The Schaghticoke Fair announced recently that up to ten $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to current New York State high school seniors and also students enrolled in college. The New York State Association of Agricultural Fairs and the New York State Showpeople’s Association sponsor the scholarships.
