Hoosick Falls Schools Superintendent Ken Facin said this week that Governor Cuomo’s proposed reduction in school aid will have serious consequences for the Hoosick Falls District. Under the Governor’s proposal, total aid to the Hoosick Falls District would be cut by 13%, which is $1.3 million. NYS Aid To BCS Drops By $1.2 Million

Governor Cuomo’s budget submitted to the State Legislature last week would cut State aid to the Berlin Central School District by $1.2 million. That’s a drop in funding of 13%. Interim Superintendent Brian Howard warned at the last School Board meeting that the proposed cut would be severe. He thought it might even be as high as last year’s slashing of $634,000. As it turns out, Cuomo is thinking bigger.

Panther Bowlers Win League Championship
The Hoosick Falls bowling team defeated Fort Edward in the Adirondack League Championship match by the total pin score of 3,955 to 3,882. There were outstanding scores bowled by both teams. Hoosick Falls won the first game by 111 pins and the second game by 103 pins with a great single game total of 1,422. Fort Edward won the third game by 141 giving Hoosick Falls the overall win by 73 pins. Both Hoosick Falls and Fort Edward had their best team totals for the year.

Weierbach, Burns Titles Lead Panthers To Second Place

A week after coming in second to Granville at the WASAREN League Championships, the Hoosick Falls wrestling team stepped up in this week’s Class C Sectionals. The Panthers easily defeated Granville and finished a close second place to Champion Corinth.

Hoosick Falls Blows Out Granville On Senior Night

The final home game of the year is always a chance for the basketball team to honor the seniors on the team. The 2010-2011 Hoosick Falls boys team has four seniors on their roster who were honored Wednesday night – David Ciuk, Quinn Rasmus, Sean Dingman and Mike Brewster. All four were in the starting lineup as the Panthers hosted Granville.

Panthers Lose To Schuylerville, Fall To Second Place

The buildup for the second round of Hoosick Falls and Schuylerville boys basketball started shortly after their first meeting on December 15. The Black Horses edged the defending league champion Panthers 45-44 on a shot with three seconds left in the game. Since then everyone has been eyeing the rematch. After being snowed out once, and Schuylerville falling to Greenwich, the anticipation built even more.

Rescheduled Basketball Games Between BCS And NLCS
The Boys Varsity basketball game between the Berlin Central School Mountaineers and the New Lebanon Tigers will be played at New Lebanon on Monday, February 14. The game will be at 6 pm.
The two schools’ Boys Modified basketball teams will play at New Lebanon on Tuesday, February 15. The game will start at 4:30 pm.

Applications are being accepted for the scholarship award of $250 for the best essay on “What Freedom Means To Me” by a graduating senior from Brunswick Central School District or Berlin Central School District who is continuing on with his or her education.
