The next business meeting of the HFCS PTA will take place on Wednesday, February 16, in the Elementary School Library beginning at 6:30 pm.
As always, members and non-members are encouraged to join meetings to find out what the PTA is doing for our children and to share ideas for special programs and events to benefit the children and families of our school district.

Deaflympic Snowboard Team Member Contacts Berlin Central School’s InvenTeam

On January 12, a member of the U.S. Deaflympic Snowboard Team contacted Berlin Central School’s InvenTeam about their invention, according to their teacher and facilitator Dawn Wetmore.
The team’s idea is an adaptive sports device (ASD) that will allow hearing impaired and deaf persons to ski, snowboard, rollerblade, jog and bicycle by warning them of approaching traffic from behind so they can avoid collisions.
“We were surprised and honored to hear from Jeff Pollock, who volunteered to be our deaf athlete test pilot,” Wetmore said. “As we have not patented the invention, we explained to Jeff that we can’t send it yet but will keep him informed of our progress.”

Hoosick Falls Central School Is A Top 26 Winner In State Farm’s® Project Ignition Competition
You’re in the Driver’s Seat, a student service-learning project on teen driver safety, is one of 26 projects selected through a competitive process to participate in the 2010-2011 Project Ignition (PI) program. The Hoosick Falls team has received a $2,000 grant to implement their project and will be supported by HFCS Student Assistance Counselor Maryann Strauss and members of the staff of the Hoosick Area Youth Center & Community Coalition (HAYC3).

Pre-K At St. Mary’s Academy Beats the Cold
St. Mary’s Eagles Soar To 6 And 1 Record

After beginning the season with a disappointing loss at home to Sacred Heart, the St. Mary’s Academy girls seventh and eighth grade basketball team has run off six straight victories. The Eagles now stand 6 and 1 at the halfway point in their season following victories over Arlington, Grace Christian, Dorset and Manchester. Coach Donna M. Cuddihy has credited the streak to the incredible determination and teamwork of this year’s squad.

Panther Bowlers Win Southern Division; League Championship Match Is On Tuesday
The Hoosick Falls bowling team won its final regular season match on Monday against Stillwater by the score of 4 – 0. In doing so, they won the Southern Division of the Adirondack League and will bowl Fort Edward, who won the Northern Division, for the overall championship of the league on Tuesday, February 8, at the Strike Zone Lanes in Saratoga starting at 4 pm.

Panther Wrestlers Take Second At Ken Baker Classic

At the WASAREN League wrestling championships, dubbed the Ken Baker Classic, the Hoosick Falls wrestling team had a very strong showing, capturing second place overall and sending eight wrestlers to the podium, including two champions. Granville took home the team title, scoring 157.5 points to Hoosick Falls’ 133 points.

Panthers Cruise By Stillwater 62-34

Coach Mike Lilac and the Hoosick Falls boys basketball team hosted Stillwater for the second time this season on Friday night. In the first matchup the Panthers overcame an eight point deficit going into the final quarter and held on for a 63-57 win. In Hoosick Falls, it was a different story though.

The Berlin Middle/High School is hosting an Art & Music Festival on Wednesday, February 16, from 6 to 8 pm.
