Hoosick Falls Elementary School has started the process of creating a registry/mailing list of new students for the September 2011 kindergarten class.
If you have a child who will be five years old by December 1, 2011, please call the Elementary School Office as soon as possible at 686-9492 to ensure that your child’s name is placed on our mailing list. Registration packets will be mailed out beginning February 14.
Kindergarten screening will occur during the week of June 20.

BCS Annual Clothing/Coat Swap

On February 11 the Berlin Central School District will hold its annual clothing/coat swap from 3 to 8 pm in the Berlin Middle/High School cafeteria, and the public is cordially invited.
As Melissa Putterman Hoffman, one of the swap’s organizers, explained, “All families, staff and community members in the Berlin Central School District are invited to donate clothing, and all families in the district are also invited to take whatever they need from the clothing collection.”

Mountain Road School Open House
Mountain Road School will host two events – an In-School Open House on Tuesday, February 8, from 9 am to 12 pm and an evening Open House on February 11, from 5 to 7 pm. The In-school event on February 8 will provide prospective parents and children with an opportunity to tour the school while classes are in session.

No Elevated Lead Levels In Blood Tests Of BES Students

Interim Schools Superintendent Brian Howard started off the Berlin School Board meeting Tuesday with a mostly positive report on blood lead screening and lead stabilization at Berlin Elementary School. Howard said that screening of students at the school was completed on January 28. Of the 128 students checked, none were found to have elevated levels of lead. Another 160 or more students had their blood tested by Rensselaer County and, according to Howard, no one in this group showed elevated lead levels. Howard said the District could be thankful for these results.

Economic Crisis May Affect The HFCS District Budget

At the regular monthly School Board meeting, Hoosick Falls Schools Superintendent Ken Facin said, “The economic crisis in New York State is real,” and it may well put the squeeze on school finances over the next few years. The tentative budget for the 2011-2012 school year will be presented at next month’s meeting, and we will learn at that time more details on the budget outlook for the school. Burns Takes First, Weirebach Second At Shen Wrestling Tourney

Fitness Center Opens In Berlin Middle – High School

A new well equipped fitness center is now open in Berlin Middle School-High School with a new and welcome approach according to Sandy Honsinger, the school’s Physical Education Director.
“The focus of the center is to get kids active and to promote healthy lifestyles,” Honsinger said. “To do that, our equipment is very user friendly, regardless of someone’s initial fitness level. It’s multi-purpose too, which is great because we have limited space, and it also includes health rate monitoring.”

Berlin High School Carnival
Over 120 Berlin High School students and their guests danced the night away at the Berlin High School Semi-Formal themed “Carnival.” Life size carousel horses appeared to move as they were cascaded with light from the rotating disco ball. Red and white streamers gave the essence of the Big Top while parent volunteers served popcorn, soda, corn dogs and other carnival foods. Music was provided by Sound Control DJ Service.

FCCLA Talent Show
Berlin Middle and High School FCCLA will host the 19th Annual Talent Show called Ride the Carousel of Talent on Saturday, February 5, at 7 pm.
