A 32-yard field goal in overtime by Saranac Lake’s Forrest Morgan sealed the win in last Saturday’s Class C Regional Final against Class C Section II Super Bowl Champs Hoosick Falls Panthers.
The Panthers held a solid lead throughout most of the game with scores by quarterback Mike Brewster and receiver Quinn Rasmus before halftime.

BCS Fall Sports Awards

Ten Berlin Middle/High School Fall sports teams were honored Wednesday with certificates and awards. Athletic Director Art Schmich started the program by thanking all his coaches, bus drivers, maintenance workers and the parents for a well run season.

The Cast Of The HFCS Drama Production of “The Importance Of Being Earnest”
St. Mary’s Academy Holiday Cabaret
On Friday, December 3, St. Mary’s Academy will host its Eighth Annual Holiday Cabaret; when the Fort Salem Theater presents The Singing Anchors. In alphabetical order, Channel 6’s Jerry Gretzinger, joins forces with News Channel 13’s Jessica Layton and Benita Zahn for an evening of song and banter. Although the anchors are sometimes direct competitors in their newscasts, this is a rare opportunity to see these three broadcasters joining together in perfect harmony. Fort Salem Theater presents The Singing Anchors was created and shaped by the performers in creative consultation with Fort Salem’s Artistic Director Jay Kerr, who arranged the music and accompanies the singers on keyboard.

Panthers Win Class C Title

The Hoosick Falls Panthers football team proved they were in it to win it during Friday night’s Super Bowl game against the Chatham Panthers. The Hoosick Falls offense posted 31 first downs and tallied 674 yards on their way to a huge victory over their Panther rival with a final score of 61-28.

Annual Veterans Day Program At HFCS

As usual, the very moving Veterans Day program at Hoosick Falls Central School began with the entire Elementary School standing and singing “God Bless America” as students carrying American flags were followed into the high school auditorium by the Veterans to be honored. This year those veterans were active duty National Guard members and Afghanistan and Iraq veterans Matthew Sagendorf, Kevin Miller and Patrick Kelly. Sagendorf served in Iraq and Miller and Kelly served together in Afghanistan. Miller and Kelly were later introduced to the audience by their children, who attend the school at HFCS.

BCS Students Receive Invention Grant
Berlin M.S./H.S. was recently awarded a Lemelson-MIT InvenTeam grant in the amount of $4,305 to create a device for the deaf and hearing impaired that would alert them to oncoming traffic while participating in a sporting activity. BCS is one of 14 high schools nationwide to be selected as an InvenTeam this year.

HFCS Field Hockey Team Ends Splendid Season

On Sunday, November 7, at high noon, the Hoosick Falls Lady Panthers and the Greenwich Witches field hockey teams lined up for a duel on a sunny, crisp day. Coming into the match both teams had one loss on the season, to this day’s opponent. With a large crowd from both home towns cheering their respective teams on, every player on the field gave it everything they had.

Five BCS XC Runners To Go To States

The Berlin cross country teams will be continuing their success stories by sending five members to the State Championship. The teams had been very successful running in the Patroon League, but this year they moved to the WASAREN League. The WASAREN League is a combination of teams from Washington, Saratoga and Rensselaer Counties. Some of the best runners in New York state compete in this league. Berlin was confident that they had a good chance of being competitive here because of the strength of their veteran runners and the potential of their younger runners. HFCS Drama Presents The Importance Of Being Earnest
The Hoosick Falls Central School Drama club will be presenting another night of comedy in its fall production that runs from November 19 through November 21. The performances will begin with a short one-act entitled “Cabfare for the Common Man” by Mark Harvey Levine. The performance will then transition into the main focus of the event – Oscar Wilde’s classic satire The Importance of Being Earnest, preceded by a short technological presentation by drama students about understanding a satire. Thanks to the support of Hoosick Falls Central School, we are once again able to offer free admission to all.
